Mapleview Families,
As we enter the holiday season and move from Thanksgiving to Christmas, we have a lot to cele-
brate and be thankful for here at Mapleview.
I am thankful for all of the families that participated in our fundraiser, which we celebrated right
before Thanksgiving. I think the students took great joy in taping me to the wall.
I am thankful for the extra work our musicians and singers are putting into preparing for the up-
coming concerts. I am eagerly anticipating the concert next week. It looks to be a great perfor-
mance.
I am thankful for our staff who work diligently to care for each student in their class and work
toward improvement for all students.
I am thankful for our students who continue to show kindness to others and bring energy to our
building.
I am thankful for our families and communities who make Kimberly the great place it is to live and
learn.
In the classroom we continue to move forward with our goal of growing students as problem solv-
ers. We are focusing on students possessing a clear knowledge of outcomes and expectations, to
always know their current state in relation to those expectations, and independently set a goal for
improvement.
Finally, we continue to celebrate the achievement of the Kimberly Area School District and
Mapleview Intermediate School with the recent release of the state report card. Congratulations
to the district and the school on "Significantly Exceeding Expectations" over the past year. The
hard work that the students and teachers put in has paid off. Let's keep up the great work!
I wish you a joy-filled and relaxing holiday season.
Sincerely,
Jason Nate

Holiday Board Winners 2018
P A G E 3 V O U L M E 1 3 , I S S U E 4
Mr. Calmes would like to thank
the following 5th grade stu-
dents: Macy Cloutier, Gracie
Creel, and Cara Sauter. These
young ladies put in many hours of
hard work on the Mapleview In-
termediate Holiday Board, and
the board looks fantastic. The
board is on display at Memorial
Park (located across the street
from Mapleview). So please take
some time during the holidays to
stop out and see all their hard work! Great Job Ladies!
It is inevitable that snow will
come so, please continue to
be on your toes when drop-
ping off and picking up your
child. The roads and parking
lots will get narrower and visi-
bility will decrease. When
dropping off on Maple Street,
please drop on the school side
of the street. When dropping
off in front of the school of-
fice, please remain in line and
have your child exit the vehi-
cle as soon as your vehicle
reaches the sidewalk. We can
unload five to six at a time
which will make drop-off fast-
er. There is a crosswalk in
front of the office doors, so
please stay in line and don’t
pass. Thank you for keeping
the safety of our students a
number one priority.
Winter Safety Thank you for
keeping the
safety of our
students a
number one
priority.
Winter Choir Concert Our winter concert will be on Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30 in the
Mapleview Gym. There will be a dress rehearsal during school at 2:00 pm. The
concert will feature the 5th grade general music classes, the mallet ensemble,
and the Mapleview Choir.

Intramurals
M A P L E V I E W
We’ve worked hard and had a lot of fun in all of our intramurals this fall. Most recently,
our girls volleyball teams and boys and girls wrestling teams completed their seasons
with games and matches against Woodland. Nice team work, everyone!
Our after school choir members ended their fall practice this week and will perform at
our Holiday concert on Tuesday, December 11. We’re looking forward to listening to
them perform!
Watch for basketball sign up sheets to come home in a few weeks. Then following
those in a few months will be boys’ volleyball, chess & cribbage club and 5th grade art
club. We enjoy getting our students involved in extracurricular activities that encourage
them to interact with others, learn new skills and have fun!
Thank you to all parents for your commitment as well. We appreciate it.
Fundraiser Rewards Our fundraiser officially ended with 91 of our students participating in the fundraiser
party (sold 8 or more) and 26 students getting a limo ride (sold 18 or more)! At the
party students sure enjoyed duct taping Mrs. Nate to the wall. Thank you again to
students, families, neighbors, and friends for supporting our fundraiser!
Wow, even on a windy, cool November morning we had a great turnout for our Walk to School
Day 2018! Bob the Bobcat welcomed us with Bobcash when we arrived at school. It was re-
scheduled from October because of rain. We met at Roosevelt Park in Kimberly and finished
the walk to school together. There were several fun items raffled off for the participants. This
event is sponsored by the East Central WI Regional Safe Routes To School Program. We plan
to have a winter walk in the coming months, so get ready to dress warm! Also, in the spring of
the year we will have a Bike to School day.

Emergency Medication
School Attendance A reminder to parents that all
attendance must go through
the Main Office in advance.
Please send a note with your
child, call the office at 788-
7910 to speak to a secretary,
or leave a message on our
attendance line. The office
will then update your stu-
dent’s attendance in Infinite
Campus. You may inform
teachers if you so choose,
however, the Main Office
should be the initial contact
to avoid any unexcused ab-
sences. You are able to leave
a message at any time outside
of our normal office hours
(3:15 PM-7:00 AM).
Wisconsin’s school compul-
sory law requires students
miss no more than ten (10)
days per school year. Once a
student has missed ten or
more days of school a doc-
tor’s note may be required to
excuse the absence. Students
who visit the doctor due to
an extended illness in advance
of the ten days are also en-
couraged to send a doctor’s
note to the Main Office ex-
cusing the absence. Absences
excused by a medical profes-
sional generally do not count
toward a student’s ten day
maximum. If you have ques-
tions regarding our attend-
ance policy or a unique cir-
cumstance, please contact
Valerie Schroeder, the
Mapleview Intermediate at-
tendance secretary.
Please be aware that emer-
gency medications that are
provided for use during the
school day will not be ac-
cessible after school hours.
Parents and students plan
ahead to have emergency
medication available during
after school activities such
as clubs and sports. If an
emergency arises and a
student does not have
their emergency medica-
tion available, 911 will be
called.

A few weeks ago, the Mapleview Student Council
sponsored a food drive to help out people in our com-
munity who do not have enough to eat this Holiday
season and throughout the year. Students helped out
by bringing in non-perishable food items that were
donated to St. Joseph’s Food Pantry in Menasha.
For some added incentive each day, the students
were given clues about teachers in the school. They
tried to determine which clues were about which
teacher and donated the food in that person’s
name. This year’s “winner” was Mrs. Williams. Her
reward? Dress up as a turkey and strut up and down
Kimberly Avenue while the students and other passersby watched and honked in approval.
After collecting and adding up all the UNICEF money, we are happy to say that our school raised a
grand total of $1,191.96. This is an outstanding achievement, and we couldn't be more proud of
what everyone in this school did! That is a lot of money that will go toward helping others around
the world who are less fortunate.
Annual Mapleview Turkey Legs Food Drive!
Mile of Madness
In the spirit of helping others, this holiday season we will be having a candy cane sale next
week Monday, Dec. 10th through Friday, December 14th. The students will have the opportunity to buy candy canes during their lunch period for $.50 a piece. They may keep it themselves or have it delivered to a friend as a gift in the afternoon.
The profits from this sale will be given to the Breath of Life Foundation this year. It is not-for-profit foundation which raises money to help families in the State of Wisconsin battling Cystic Fibrosis.
They will be using these funds to purchase books and toys for children in St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay.
Happy Holidays from Mapleview Student Council!

A Message From the Nurse
Is It a Cold or the Flu?
A reminder that prescription
and non-prescription medi-
cations must be brought to
the school office by the stu-
dent’s parent. All medica-
tions must be in the original
container, and clearly labeled
with the student’s name. Stu-
dents may not carry their
own medications at school
(exception: an emergency
medication that a physician
and parent have authorized a
student to carry, such as an
inhaler or Epipen). A Medica-
tion Consent form must be
on file with the school office
before any medication can be
given; a physician’s signature
is required for prescription
medications. The Medication
Consent form can be found
on the district website under

services/ Medication Con-
sent Form 4K-12; copies are

or a family member is experiencing symptoms that sound more like the flu than a cold, con-
tact your doctor.
A note from Mr. Calmes:
If anyone has items that they would like to donate for use in my art
classes, please bring them into the office. If you are not sure if I will
use particular items, please contact me. I am always looking for
people to donate items from home or work. Thank you!
Art Supplies
December
During the three weeks of school in December, our teachers will select students who are following the
Bobcat expectations and reward them with a Santa hat (for the back of their chair) and a candy cane for
the day. By recognizing the students who show appropriate behaviors and get their work done on time,
the staff is rewarding that positive behavior with a fun incentive. It is a fun way to recognize students who
make a habit of doing the right thing.
As always if you have any questions, comments or concerns about PBIS please feel free to contact your
child’s teacher, Mrs. Jochimsen or Mr. Nate. On behalf of Mapleview’s staff, we thank you for all of your
efforts to reinforce our community values and expectations outside of our school day.
Congratulations to all of those students for following the Bobcat expectations throughout the month of
November…Keep up the great work in December!

Fox Valley Junior Math League Reporting from the Menasha meet on Nov. 26, 2018
48 Kimberly students loaded the bus at the end of the school day to make their way to the first
math meet of the season. More than 150 students from 4 districts attended the meet at
Maplewood Middle School in Menasha. Spirits were high and so was the confidence of the more
experienced mathletes. Others were a bit worried. “Will it be hard? Can I solve such tough
problems?” By the end of the meet all students
remembered the following equation: Good Times
Squared = happiness multiplied exponentially!

Several of our 5th graders were part of designing, coding and creating “Mario & Luigi Dream Team” mosaic
for the Rubik's Cube contest now underway. 5th grader Jackson Matz designed the mosaic and wrote the di-
rections for his fellow Mapleview and Woodland Intermediate classmates (Grant Bates, Isaac Dietzler, Ryland
Haynes, Riley Kaempf, and Noah Kluender) to complete it. You'll be astounded how passionate and accomplished
they are with these cubes.
