PaITuli – geospatial data service• Downloading service of geospatial data sets for Finnish
universities and polytechnics• Data is allowed to use for research and education• Web application with map UI
– MapServer– HTML + JavaScript– Part of CSC’s extranet service
• First version launched 2007• Renewed 2009
– Now a service in HAKA federation
PaITuli – data sets• Currently includes data sets from:
– National Land Survey of Finland – Finnish Road Administration– Geological Survey of Finland– Finnish Meteorological Institute– National Board of Antiquities
• 27 different data sets– Some with temporal subsets
• altogether 530 GB

PaITuli – experiences and future • New service has attracted quite much
users– 350 different users since April 2009– Over 40 000 files downloaded
• Next steps– More data sets– Close collaboration with finnish INSPIRE
portal development
Finnish radio- and TV archive (RTVA)• National audiovisual archive (KAVA) has a mandate to archive
radio and TV broadcasts in Finland– The law of storing and preserving cultural material (Laki
kulttuuriaineistojen tallettamisesta ja säilyttämisestä 1433/2007) (came into operation January 1st 2008)
• In development KAVA uses subcontractors • CSC’s role is
– Act as a technical integrator– Build a storage and VoD subsystems– Maintain the system in production phase
• RTVA system will launced at end of 2009– More details will be published at same time

– Start of development • capturing subsystem• Storage subsystem• Metadata management system (MMS)
• 1H/2009: – capturing and storage subsystems up and running– First alpha release of MMS
• 2H/2009: – Development of VoD subsystem– MMS final release (december 2009)– 31.12.2009 offical release

• All files on disks and tapes• Data stored so far:
– 130 000 hours of radio and TV broadcast– 200 000 files– 37 TB
