ThePronam project for senior citizens of Kolkata is runby Kolkata Police in collaboration with city-basednon-governmental organization (NGO) TheBengal.“I am glad that Pronam now has anadditional state-of-the-art office. The Kolkata Policehas created a 24x7 infrastructure to support thesenior citizens of our city and ensure their safety.Pronam also organises various cultural activitiesfor the elderly during the year,” Mr Sharma said.Project Pronam, which currently has nearly 20,000registered senior citizens on its roll, was started inJune 2010. The Pronam project is supported byShree Cement Ltd as a part of its corporate socialresponsibility (CSR) initiative. “The Pronamproject has grown over the years and reached outto the senior citizens of the city providing securityand moral support. The corona virus outbreak has

posed a serious question mark on the well-being ofsenior citizens in Kolkata, especially those who liveby themselves. Many elderly residents of Kolkatahave children working outside the city or countryand are hard up to carry out the daily chores likegoing to the market or doctors.
