CUNY’s Blind Eye

Towards Greek Life.

The Greek organization, Sigma Theta Xi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. was forced to hold a secret informational on York college campus

last Thursday.

• Prior to this event Jatia Powell, president and founder of this organization spoke to a representative in the student life office.

Jatia was denied her request for an approval of flyers for her organization. She was told that York college does not recognize Greeks.

Only six schools within the CUNY system recognize Greeks on campus.

Even though Jatia was told about York’s policy, there are several other

organizations on campus.

And the list goes on.

Members of this sorority aim to develop leaders and leadership skills, high academic standards, personal growth, and provide services on a campus and in the community.

Here they are at their last rush event for the month. SQX attended a workshop called Each One Teach One Dance Series. 3/27/11

Both the members and their interests learned a few new dance steps and how to stretch properly.

Unlike most Greek organizations, SQX has zero tolerance for hazing, so why not expose students to a positive sister/brotherhood?
