9th CASEE Conference – Bucharest 6-9th of June 2018

University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine

Research Center For Studies Of Food Quality And

Agricultural Products

Introduction

Researches are part of the phD thesis: ”Researches on organic culture of edible roses”

Rose is one of the most mankind beloved plant specie since the ancient times. It is a symbol of love and victory, sign of nobility and refinement. Its therapeutic properties are usually forgotten in favor of the ornamental role. It is important to rediscover them and for an appropriate analyze an organic culture is needed.

Objective

to present a technology for the cultivation of organic roses for petal

production The basic principle followed is the creation of an organic production

ecosystem considering the natural and anthropogenic factors (Milică et al,

2010, Wagner, 2010).

Organic Agriculture

Always remember the 4 principles of organic agriculture:

Health Ecology Fairness Care

Important factors to be taking into consideration by the technology:

Environment – biodiversity Soil activity Seedlings

Plant protection and fertilization Weeds control

Quality of products Human factor

Material and method

Falstaff Brother Cadfael

Crown Princess Margaret

Three climbing varieties David Austin English roses

“Falstaff” - dark crimson colour, 250-300 cm height, repeat flowering and good fragrance.

“Crown Margaret” - an apricot – orange, 250-350 cm height, fruity fragrance with repeat flowering.

“Brother Cadfael” - a pink rose, 300 cm height, strong old rose fragrance with repeat flowering.

All three varieties are edible. suitable for jam or other products.

Results and discussion

15

The technology for the cultivation of organic roses for petal production follows several steps

16

Results and discussion

Step 1. Preparing the land for planting

17

Land clearing of existing vegetation and clean Plotting the land Fencing the culture Creating the windbreak

Role windbreak – create a microclimate for decrease external influences (possibly polluting substances from neighboring crops) - create a shelter for useful avifauna.

Step 1. Preparing the land for planting

18

- poplar windbreak (Populus balsamifera) in a grass band 2.0 – 2.5 m wide at 1 m distance in the center of the green band

Step 1. Preparing the land for planting

19

Proper preparation of the land: Scarification, Ground leveling, Depth plowing 25-30 cm, Soil preparation with a rotary cutter

Natural soil disinfection and disinsection

Amelorative plants - microbiology

20

Fungi

Bacteria

Amelorative plants microbiology

21

Soil respiration

Step 2. Establishing the organic edible rose culture

22

Supply of seedlings Establishment of planting distances and land plotting - climbing roses 2 m

between rows and 1 m per row Basic fertilization at planting - fermented manure (10-15 to / ha) or

another organic fertiliser Installing trellis system

Step 2. . Establishing the organic edible rose culture

23

Install fertigation system – drip irrigation on the first wire

Rose planting – preferably in automn

Step 2. . Establishing the organic edible rose culture

24
