CITY YEAR NEW ORLEANSNOVEMBER 9, 2013
On November 9, 2013 CSX Transportation Completed A Service Project With City Year New Orleans…
Together, we enhanced the edible garden at
Langston Hughes Academy in the Gentilly
neighborhood of New Orleans.
City Year is an education focused non-profit that provides targeted tutoring to students who are behind in
math and literacy. • This year, 42 corps members
are serving in 4 FirstLine Schools, including Langston Hughes Academy.
• Corps Members dedicate over 53,000 hours during their year of full-time service.
• Last year, 90% of students who received tutoring in literacy increased their test scores.
• 66% of students who received tutoring in math increased their test scores.
During the Garden Build We…
Built A Rain Garden…
Planted New Seeds & Adjusted Irrigation Systems…
Painted Murals, Garden Signs and Rabbit Enclosures…
When You Support City Year, You Support The Children Of New Orleans
If we help City Year win a portion of the Super Service Challenge, funds will go to directly support the City Year corps and provide the resources to ensure more students get back on track in school.
At CSX, we support City Year every year by sponsoring the team at Langston Hughes Academy. In 2014, we will
participate in City Year’s Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on January 20 at Arthur Ashe Charter School, which will focus
on an acre-size garden build.
