About the UniversityThe University of Saugor, later renamed as Doctor Harisingh Gour Vishwavidayalaya, Sagar in 1983, was established on 18th July 1946 by Doctor Sir Harisingh Gour out of his lifelong earnings. At that time, it was the first University in the state of Madhya Pradesh. The University was upgraded as Central University on January 15, 2009, by the Central University Act, 2009 and was accredited ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in the third cycle in 2015. This University campus is spread over an area of 1300 acres and situated in the natural environment of green forests. There are 35 independent departments and some of them are recognized centers of the UGC and DST under the DRS, PURSE and FIST programs. Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru Central library is known for the good collection of books on different subjects and e-journals.
About the DepartmentThe Department of Criminology, later renamed as the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science, was established on 18th July 1959 at the University of Saugor. The former Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice G.P. Bhatt was the first Head of the department. The department of Criminology and Forensic Science is running two different courses under the School of Applied Sciences. The department is involved in teaching in Criminology and Forensic Science at the graduate and postgraduate levels leading to M.A. in Criminology and M.Sc. in Forensic Science respectively along with the research facilities for Ph.Ds in both disciplines. The department is recognized as a DST-FIST sponsored department. The contributions of the department are various and remarkable in teaching and research. The alumni of the department are occupying outstanding positions and are globally known for their achievements.
About the CityThe original name ‘Saugor’ is an amalgamation of two words: Sau meaning Hundred (100) and Garh meaning Forts; there were countless small-forts in this region. With time the name changed from Saugor to Sagar (formerly Saugor) is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh in central India. The city is around 172 Kilometers (107 miles) Northeast of state capital, Bhopal. This city is recognized by Dr. Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya, Jawaharlal Nehru Police Academy, Military Cantonment, Medical College, Engineering College and many more. Tourist place in Madhya Pradesh are: Bhopal, Khajuraho, Orchha, Pachmarhi, Sanchi, Ujjain, Omkareshwer, Maiher, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Chanderi, Chitrakoot, Mandu, Shivpuri etc.
About the Society (ISC)The Indian Society of Criminology was established in the year 1970. The society has been seeking to attain its objectives by organizing annual conferences, periodical symposia, training programmes and public lectures with themes of relevance and current interest in society, crime and its prevention and rehabilitation of the offenders, thus involving the people against crime and delinquency and also stimulating interest among the members of the Criminal Justice System in applying criminological approach to the problem of crime. So far society has organized 40 annual All Indian Criminology conference at various places/ institutions in India. The society has instituted various awards: The Kumarappa- Reckless Award, Prof. S.S. Shrivastava Award, Dr. B.S. Haikerwal Award and Prof. Sushil Chandra Award, The Fellowships of the ISC.

Criminology for global wellness wants to highlight how this subject is important in existent time for all. In this subject, not only we study about criminals but also the victims of crimes. Criminologist through their intensive study and research, help the administrators, policymakers, lawmakers, social workers, and all the law enforcement officials to enable them to make newer grounds for effective means in the prevention of crimes. If we glance over the justice delivery system, it protects the cherished social values and norms, promotes a sense of security amongst the people, and ensures the rights of the victim and accused. From time to time criminologists used to give all kinds of training to police officers, prison officers, correctional officers, etc. On how to curb crimes so that people can live peacefully. ISC Best research paper award (Open Scientific Session)The Indian Society of Criminology awards one Gold medal and one Silver medal for the best research papers in the field of Criminology, Criminal Justice and allied fields. The Research paper should be outcome of scientific / empirical research carried out between December 2018 and December, 2019 by a young research scholars / students below 35 years of age (attach SSLC or 10 Class mark statement for age proof duly attested by the Head of the Department). The paper may be sent to The Secretary, ISC at his email isccontact1970@gmail.com on or before 31st December, 2019 with the mention of “Best Research Paper”. The papers selected for presentation will be intimated on or before 30 January, 2020.
