Creative iMediaR085 CREATING A MULTIPAGE WEBSITE
Task brief
Your client is the local tourist information board who is running a campaign to encourage
teenagers to spend more time in their local area visiting attractions. They have asked you
to develop a multipage website which will help them do this by promoting attractions and
facilities in the local area. The tourist information board has asked for a website which
contains a minimum of five pages to help them to promote the local area.
The website must contain an appropriate navigation system and a consistent look across
all pages. It should also contain a range of images, appropriate text and any other
multimedia assets.
Learning Outcome 1: Understand the properties and features of multipage websites
Learners must be taught:
The purpose and component features of multipage websites in the public domain.
The devices used to access web pages i.e.:
• laptops and personal computers
• mobile devices and smartphones
• tablets
• games consoles
• digital television;
The methods of internet connection i.e.:
• wired broadband
• wi-fi (e.g. private local area networks, public hotspots)
• wireless broadband (e.g. 3G, HSDPA, 3GPP, LTE).
Task 1: Understanding properties and features of multipage websites
Learning outcome (LO) 1 is assessed in this task.
Before creating the multipage website, you will need to investigate the properties and
features of existing multipage websites.
The purpose and component features of multipage websites
You need to:
• explore existing websites which are available in the public domain, summarising their
different purposes
• describe the component features of these websites and what these component features
aim to do.
Task 1: Understanding properties and features of multipage websites
The technologies used to access web pages
You need to identify and describe:
• The devices used to access websites
• The methods which can be used to connect to the Internet.
Present your evidence in an appropriate way.
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to plan a multipage website
Learners must be taught how to:
interpret client requirements for a multipage website (e.g. to inform, entertain, promote or
sell products and/or services), based on a specific brief (e.g. by client discussion, reviewing a
written brief, or specification)
• Understand target audience requirements for a multipage website
• Produce a work plan for the creation of a multipage website, to include:
• tasks
• activities
• workflow
• timescales
• resources
• milestones
• contingencies
Learning Outcome 2: Be able to plan a multipage website
• create a site map with navigation links
• produce a visualisation diagram for a web page identifying the house style
• identify the assets needed to create a multipage website (e.g. backgrounds, banners, buttons, shapes, text, fonts)
• identify the resources needed to create and publish a multipage website (e.g. internet access, web server, domain name, computer system and software)
• prepare assets for use in web pages
• create and maintain a test plan to test a multipage website during production.
Learners must be taught:
• how legislation (e.g. copyright, trademarks, intellectual property use, permissions and implications of use) applies to assets used in multipage websites (e.g. images, graphics, corporate logos, music and video clips), whether sourced or created.
Task 2: Planning the multipage website
Parts of Learning Outcome (LO) 2 are assessed in this task.
You need to organise your time and resources so that you can plan the creation of your
multipage website. You will need to decide on a suitable house style and take into
consideration any external restrictions on what you can use or produce.
Your client and the target audience
You need to:
• interpret the client’s requirements for the multipage website
• identify the characteristics and requirements of the target audience.
Task 2: Planning the multipage website
Learning Outcome (LO) 2 is assessed in this task.
Creating a plan
You need to:
• create a work plan for your multipage website
• describe the assets and resources you will need to create the multipage website.
Task 2: Planning the multipage website
Learning Outcome (LO) 2 is assessed in this task.
Producing ideas
You need to:
• produce a site map with navigation links
• produce a visualisation of the proposed page layout
• identify the house style for use in the multipage website.
Task 2: Planning the multipage website
Learning Outcome (LO) 2 is assessed in this task.
Legal restrictions
You need to:
• explain any legal issues and restrictions that need to be considered when creating the
multipage webpage to be used in a commercial context.
• Present your evidence in an appropriate way.
Learning Outcome 3: Be able to create multipage websites using multimedia components
Learners must be taught how to:
• create suitable folder structures to organise and save web pages and asset files using appropriate naming conventions
• source and import assets (e.g. graphics, image, texture, sound, video, animation, text)
• create a suitable master page as a template for a multipage website
• use a range of tools and techniques in web authoring software to create a multipage website
• insert assets into web pages to create planned layouts (e.g. text, lists, tables, graphics, moving images, embedded content)
• create a navigation system (e.g. using a navigation bar, buttons, hyperlinks)
• save a multipage website in a format appropriate to the software being used
• publish a multipage website to a location appropriate to client requirements.
Learners must be taught:
• how to use version control when creating multipage websites.
Task 3: Creating your multipage website
Parts of Learning Outcome (LO) 2 and Learning Outcome (LO) 3 will be assessed in this
task.
You will need to produce the multipage website using a range of assets, tools and
techniques to ensure that it is suitable for the client and the target audience.
Obtaining assets for use in the multipage website
You will need to:
• obtain and store the assets identified in your planning
• check the properties of the assets to ensure that they are suitable for use in the
multipage website.
Task 3: Creating your multipage website
Parts of Learning Outcome (LO) 2 and Learning Outcome (LO) 3 will be assessed in this
task.
Create the multipage website
You will need to:
• create an appropriate folder structure
• create a master page as a template for the final website pages
• use a range of tools and techniques in web authoring software to combine the site
master page and assets to create the final multipage website
• create the navigation system for the multipage website
• save and publish the multipage website as required by the client.
Task 3: Creating your multipage website
Parts of Learning Outcome (LO) 2 and Learning Outcome (LO) 3 will be assessed in this
task.
Test the multipage website for functionality
You will need to:
• produce and maintain a test plan throughout production.
• Present your evidence in an appropriate way.
Learning Outcome 4: Be able to review a multipage website
Learners must be taught how to:
• review a multipage website against a specific brief
• identify areas for improvement and further development of a multipage website (e.g.
text, graphics, moving images, embedded content).
Task 4: Checking and reviewing your multipage website
Learning Objective (LO)4 are assessed in this task.
Now the multipage website has been produced, you need to consider whether you have met all the requirements of the initial brief. You will also need to review the overall quality of the multipage website and identify any improvements that could be made.
Reviewing the multipage website
You need to:
• review how well the multipage website meets the client’s requirements
• identify how the multipage website could be improved
• describe areas for further development, giving reasons for your choices.
Present your evidence in an appropriate way.
