MassChallenge, the world's largest startup accelerator and competition, encourages it's employees to expand their horizons and share their knowledge through weekly "Lunch and Learns". This week, Cory Bolotsky, MassChallenge's Israel Operation Manager, taught the team some basic hebrew phrases.

So Understanding the Language is Hard...

So knowing Hebrew is important!

Today we will start with just a few words....

Shalom שלום

Pronounced “SHA – LOME”

Means “Hello” (also “Peace”)

Slicha סליחה

Pronounced “SLEE – CHAH” (You need to CCHHAAH when you say it)

Means “Excuse Me” and “Sorry”

VERY IMPORTANT WORD TO KNOW!!

Toda / Toda Rabah תודה רבה / תודה

Pronounced “TOE – DAH”

or “TOE – DAH RAH – BAH”

Means “Thank You”

Toda Rabah is similar to “Thank You Very Much”

Bavakasha בבקשה

Pronounced “BUH – VA – KA – SHA”

Means “You’re Welcomed”

Also means “Please”

Vodka Shots

Ken כן

Pronounced “KEN”

Means “Yes”

Lo לא

Pronounced “LOW”

Means “No”

Ma nishma? מה נשמע

Pronounced “MAH NISH – MAH”

Means “How are you doing?”

The Israeli “What’s up?”

Hakol Beseder הכל בסדר

Pronounced “HAKOHL BE – SE – DER”

Means “It’s all right”

The Israeli “It’s all good”

Tov טוב

Pronounced “TOV”

Means “Good”

Nachon נכון

Pronounced “NUH - CHONE”

(You need to CCHHAAH when you say it)

Means “Correct”

Sababa סבבה

Pronounced “SAH – BAH – BAH”

Means “Cool”, “Great”, “No Worries”

Semi-hippie word that can be used for almost anything. One of my favorites.
