In this ocasion, l bring you guys a new way of write about
the experience. Instead of share with you information of great
characters, l will focus on describing the magnificent paradise l
enjoyed for two weeks during january.
Corn Island it’s located in the Caribean sea, at the east from
Blue Fields and not far away from it (like 80 km). The island has
the taste of Nicaragua’s seaside, combined with the real caribean
landscape and views. People watch how days pass by just
hanging out and living the easy life. Lot of smiles and good vibes.
But, what happen with
paradises? Unfortunatly,
nowadays, peolpe keep on trying
to conquer them. Corn Island is
just another example. There is a
high average of territory wich is
private, because people with
money came and bought it. Most
of this people are extrangers, just
because they have the money
that others don’t have, they are
able to make a part of this
paradise their posesion.
And, related with this fact, is really common for local
people to work in those privates lands, keeping it clean, tidy and
under security for the foreing owners, in exchange for living
there and a few dolars to buying food.
That is another unfair point of this place, most of people
live in poorperty and prices are more expensive than in other
part of the country, because of transporting products throug the
sea. Sometimes, if the wheather is bad, people from the island
are completly isolated and enterprises can’t provide to stores or
markets products for sale to population.
As the rest of the places in the country located in the
seaside, this sland have a lot of activity related with fishing. It is a
easy way of make money for the youngsters and elders and one
of the few ways of getting a job. People go with a boat for a
couple of days or weeks for fishing grabbing the fishing line with
hands. It happens the same with the taxi driver job: it is really
common.
Population living in Corn Island is really variated. There are
local people, who borned there and other people who moved in
order to find a new begining and earn money working. There is a
Afro-Jamaican taste in the Island, most of the people talk in
english and the rest who don’t, are called “Paña”, term used to
design those who talk in spanish. Most of this Paña are people
who moved to the Island comming from other part of the
country where spanish is the main language used.
As a paradise, Corn Island has a lot of turism. Most of the
people who travell there and enjoy the white sand combined
with blue wather colors, are from U.S., Canada and a small
average, from Europe. The enterteinment wich offers the Island
is variated, but nothing special actually. Most of the turist use
night pubs or just lay down on their Hotel’s hamac and toast
their skin while drinking refreshing liquid.
