Vision Statement

To see healthy and physically active students and staff as a result of coordinated community and school efforts and to impact long term health behaviors of all community members.

Mission Statement

The Coordinated School Health Program Council’s mission is to coordinate the various components of school health and create specific action steps for improving the health and lifestyles of all students and staff.

Institutionalizing CSHP

Created a Corporation CSHP Council Two-year rotation cycleMembers represent all components of CSHP Includes 3 high school students (grades 10, 11, and

12)Responsible to the School Board (CSHP is monthly

agenda item)

Institutionalizing CSHP

Created a Corporation CSHP Council Responsible for monitoring and implementing the

Healthy School Improvement Plan and for the measurement and evaluation of the Wellness Policy

Utilizes the Healthy School Report Card as an instrument of evaluation

Institutionalizing CSHP

Created building-level Healthy School Improvement TeamsConsist of staff members, community members, and

parentsResponsible to the CSHP Council

Institutionalizing CSHP

Annual Review of CSHP efforts are provided to the School Board by the Superintendent

Review includes the Healthy School Improvement Plan and Wellness Policy

SUCCESSES!

Girls on the Run Program started in Fall 2004 for girls in grades 3-5 and 6-8!

SUCCESSES!

Adopted new Vending Machine Policy, to promote healthier food and drink choices, in November 2004!

Revised policy and negotiated new Pepsi Contract in Summer 2008!

SUCCESSES!

Chose to participate in YRBS, received School Board approval to do Passive Permission forms, and administered survey in April 2005!

Data received and reviewed through partnership with Ball State University!

Partnership with BSU!

Dr. Seabert’s CSHP class visited the Batesville Community School Corporation and then project groups prepared improvement plans for the areas of Nutrition Services and Staff Wellness!

Now participating in annual surveys of students’ attitudes toward alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs (IPRC ATOD and CDC YRBS)

Data is improving!

Tobacco-free Campus Policy approved in April 2005!

The CHOICES Program, a Parent Pledge regarding drug and alcohol use by their children and an Educational Program for both parents and children, was launched in Fall 2005.

GRANTS!CHOICES Program - Received enough dollars

from IDOE to hire a Director and two Assistant Directors

SPF-SIG - Received nearly $150,000 to utilize in both Franklin and Ripley Counties in the creation of an Epidemiological Profile and development of a Strategic Plan for addressing identified drug and alcohol-related issues
