LAST DAY OF SCHOOL SET
The last day of school will be
Tuesday, May 28 to accommodate
a snow day used earlier this year.
They were stunned by the
strings, bowled-over by the brass
and overwhelmed by the wood-
winds. The percussion put them
over the edge by prompting polite
applause. That was a summary of
the recent events that took place
at Conrady Junior High School
where the home team’s seventh-
and eighth-grade bands won the
recent Illinois Grade School Band
Festival. Competition. The Sym-
phonic Band played pieces that
included: The Torch of Liberty
march, Yorkshire Ballad and Fi-
ero, while the Concert Band
played the National Emblem
march, Firebird and Pevensey
Castle. Not to be outdone, North
Palos District 117’s fifth- and
sixth-grade bands took first place
at the Band-O-Rama competition
last week. In addition to receiving
first-place ratings, both bands –
Jaguar Band (sixth grade) and
Beginner Band (fifth grade) also
received the coveted “Esprit de
Corp” trophy. The Symphonic,
Concert and Jaguar bands are un-
der the direction of Band Director
Sue Clemons and the Beginner
Band is under the direction of Bob
Pastore. “Mr. Pastore and I are
extremely proud of all our band
students,” Mrs. Clemons said.
“They all work incredibly hard.”
Conrady Bands Take Top Honors

cently won the Illinois Grade School Band
Festival competition.

The evening had all the glitz and
glam of an actual Hollywood
event – without the egos or the
p r e t e n s e .
This night belonged to the cham-
pions – the Champions of Con-
rady. They were teachers, staff
and students, and they repre-
sented the arts, music, science,
math and the world of sports.
Conrady’s award-winning jazz
band played and a talented group
of chefs from nearby Stagg High
School’s culinary arts department
prepared the evening’s dinner.
The Conrady band is directed by
S u e C l e m o n s .
North Palos District 117’s board
room served as the venue for the
night’s event, and the room was
decorated with balloons and rib-
bons in the black and gold colors
of Conrady. This year’s
“champions” included: teachers
Peg Draguesku (science), Will
Thompson (music), Terry Evans
(math) and students Jessica Tatar
(walk-a-thon and dance team),
Colin Cherie (band/jazz band),
Gabe Sanchez (anti-bullying pro-
jects) and MacKenzie Kazin
(band/choir/drama). All winners
received a personalized plaque.
“Champions of Conrady” is an
annual recognition dinner that
highlights those who have im-
pacted others in positive ways.
Recipients are nominated by their
peers and reviewed by a commit-
tee.
Champions of Conrady
Conrady Junior High School will
be hosting its 4th Annual “Walk‐A‐
Thon for a Cure” on Monday, May
6th. Last year, the Conrady com-
munity surpassed all expectations
by raising over $20,000! We
strive to achieve the same this
year. Staff and students collec-
tively will walk more than 500
miles throughout the day! In order
to participate, each child is re-
quired to raise a minimum dona-
tion of $5. Proceeds will be do-
nated in Conrady’s name to three
different organizations: Breast
Cancer Research Foundation,
Alex’s Lemonade Stand, and the
National Ovarian Cancer Coali-
tion.
Conrady Academic Teams have
created their own incentives, with
the minimum goal of raising
$3,000 for each team. Some in-
centives include free time, movie
viewing, and teachers serving
breakfast to students.
Walk-a-thon hopes to raise $$$ for Cancer KRAZY KAMP AT CONRADY
Conrady’s Drama Club wrapped
another successful season with
their production of “Krazy Kamp”
this past weekend. The comedic
farce featured dozens of Conrady
students in fine form as they
romped through a lively produc-
tion set in a wild and wacky sum-
mer camp. Some of the stellar
performers included; Rakayla
Gibson, Hana Ghusein, Jeremy
Poynton, Anthony Pusateri,
MacKenzie Kazin, Ayoub Razick,
Megan Sarli and Maggie Gorman
