Professor Olabi, Director of the Institute of Engineering and Energy Technologies at UWSProfessor Olabi graduated with B Eng. from a 5 year course, in 1984. Then he worked in an R&D company for four years. Between 1988 and 1993, Prof Olabi completed a Master’s degree and PhD at Dublin City University. Then, from 1994 to 1998, he joined the academic staff as a lecturer at HIAST “Higher Institute of Applied Science and Technology”. From 1999 to 2002, he joined the research centre of FIAT in Italy “CRF” working on different projects related to alternative fuel systems for vehicles. From Oct 2002 until joining UWS in 2013, he was working as assistant and associate professor at Dublin City University.In the last 10 years, Prof Olabi has supervised postgraduate research students (10 M.Eng and 30 PhD) to successful completion. Prof Olabi has edited 20 proceedings, and has published more than 300 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and international conferences, in addition to 30 book chapters. In the last 12 months Prof Olabi has patented 2 innovative projects.
Prof Olabi is the founder of the International Conference on Sustainable Energy and Environmental Protection SEEP.He is the Subject Editor of the Elsevier Energy Journal and board member of a few other journals. Prof Olabi has coordinated different National, EU and International Projects. He has produced different reports to the Irish Gov. regarding: Hydrogen and Fuel Cells and Solar Energy.

Professor Henrik Lund, Editor of Chief of Energy (Elsevier)Henrik Lund (born 2 July 1960) is a Danish engineer (M.Sc.Eng.1985) and Professor in Energy Planning at Aalborg University in Denmark. He holds a Ph.D. in Implementaion of Sustainable Energy Systems (1990), and a Dr.Techn. in Choice Awareness and Renewable Energy Systems (2009). Henrik Lund is a highly ranked world-leading researcher. He is listed among ISI Highly Cited researchers ranking him among the top 1% researchers in the world within engineering. Henrik Lund has many years of management experience as head of department for approx. 200 staff persons (1996-2002), head of section for approximately
50 persons (2014 – 2016) and head of research group of 20-30 persons (2002 – present). During his time the Sustainable Energy Planning research group at Aalborg University has now grown to approx. 30 staff members including five professors. Henrik Lund is Editor-in-Chief of Elsevier’s high-impact journal Energy with annual 7000+ submissions. The journal has an impact factor of 4.520 (2016) and is ranked 3rd best journal in the world in the field of Thermodynamics and number 15 in the category of Energy & Fuels (2015).Henrik Lund is the author of more than 300 books and articles including the book ‘’Renewable Energy Systems”. Professor Damià Barceló, ICRA Director, Editor in Chief of several Elsevier JournalsD Barcelo obtained a Ph. D. in Analytical Chemistry from University of Barcelona in 1984 and he was a Post-doc at the Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam, NL between 1985-86.At present he is Full Research Professor at the Institute of Environmental Assessment and Water Studies IDAEA-CSIC (Barcelona, Spain) since 1999 and Director of the Catalan Institute of Water Research (ICRA) (Girona, Spain) since May 2008. From 2009-2015 he was Visiting Professor at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, 2009-2015. He is Full Professor in Biology at College of Science under Distinguished Scientist Fellowship Programme (DSFP) at King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, since October 2016.
His scientific focus is on the Fate and Risk of Emerging Pollutants such as Pharmaceuticals, Nanomaterials and Microplastics in the Environment, Multiple Stressors in Rivers and on the Water Pollution Control and Protection under Scarcity. His expertise is documented by the number of original publications (> 1000), an H index of 101, >47,000 ISI citations and the supervision of 55 PhD thesis ( December 2017).In 2007 he was awarded the King Jaime I Prize for the Protection of Nature from Generalitat of Valencia, Spain, for his outstanding scientific work. Professor Soteris Kalogirou, Editor in Chief of Renewable EnergyProfessor Soteris Kalogirou is at the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Materials Sciences and Engineering of the Cyprus University of Technology, Limassol, Cyprus. He received his HTI Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1982, his M.Phil. in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic of Wales in 1991 and his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Glamorgan in 1995. In June 2011 he received from the University of Glamorgan the title of D.Sc.For more than 30 years, he is actively involved in research in the area of solar energy and particularly in flat plate and concentrating collectors, solar water heating, solar steam generating systems, desalination and absorption cooling. Additionally, since 1995 he is involved in a pioneering research dealing with the use
of artificial intelligence methods, like artificial neural networks, genetic algorithms and fuzzy logic, for the modelling and performance prediction of energy and solar energy systems. He has a large number of publications as book chapters, international scientific journals and refereed conference proceedings. Until now, he received more than 10000 citations on this work and his h-index is 51. He is Editor-in-Chief of Renewable Energy and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Energy, and Editorial Board Member of another eleven journals. Professor Hussam Jouhara, Institute of Energy Future, College of Engineering, Design and Physical Sciences, Brunel University LondonProfessor Hussam Jouhara is an associate professor in Brunel University London. Since obtaining his PhD from Manchester University in 2004. He has unique expertise in working on applied heat exchangers and energy-related research activities with direct support from research councils and various UK and international industrial partners. He has extensive expertise in designing and manufacturing various types of heat exchangers, including heat pipes and heat pipe-based heat exchangers for low, medium and high temperature applications. His work in the field of heat pipe based heat exchangers resulted in novel designs for recouperators, steam generators & condensers and flat heat pipes. These
have been implemented across various industries including, but not limited to: food, electronics thermal management and low to high industrial waste heat recovery and Energy from Waste. Over the last few years, he has successfully managed to achieve new designs for industrial waste heat recovery and many thermal systems that have enhanced the performance of various industrials processes in the UK, Europe and world-wide. His latest invention relates to a new Waste to Energy system that converts municipal waste to fuel that can be used to heat our homes. The new system was developed in collaboration with Manik Venture and Mission Resources and is called: Home Energy Recovery Unit (HERU). Professor Aoife Foley, Editor in Chief of Renewable and Sustainable Energy ReviewsDr Aoife Foley is a Lecturer and a Principle Investigator in the School of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering in Queen’s University Belfast. She is Editor in Chief of Elsevier’s Renewable & Sustainable Energy Reviews (2017), ranked 6th (out of 222) journals in the field of renewable energy, sustainability and environment according to SCimago. She has accessed approximately €3 million in research income since 2009. She has published more than 40 peer reviewed articles in journals in the top 5% of her field and 50 peer reviewed conference articles. She has a h-index of 16 (Scopus), 14 (Web of Science) and 18 (Google Scholar). She was Editor (Wind) of Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews from 2014 to 2017. She is a member of
the Editorial Board of Elsevier’s Renewable Energy and the Editorial Panel of the Institution of Civil Engineers Proceedings in Transport.She is a Chartered Engineer, Fellow of Engineers Ireland and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Authority and a member of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) and Power Energy Society (PES). Dr Foley returned to full-time academia in 2009 after 12 years in industry. During her time in industry, she worked principally on energy, transport and waste infrastructure projects. Her multidisciplinary research activities are contained within the Intelligent Control (EPIC) research cluster in the School of Electronic, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Energy Power, the Risk and Inequality group in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics and in the Bryden Centre for Advanced Marine and Bio-Energy in the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering.
