commercial waste managementVeolia Environmental Services is an international, market-leading waste management company
providing a comprehensive range of services for organisations and people across the UK.
We anticipate and evaluate new legislation, develop and assess environmental technologies
and research our customers’ practical requirements to provide successful and sustainable
waste management services.
We are part of Veolia Environnement, a world leader in environmental services and the only company to provide a full range of
integrated solutions across water, waste management, energy and transportation sectors. Combining our global experience and
thorough local knowledge we can work effectively with commercial organisations of all sizes and sectors, while caring for the
communities and the environment in which we operate.
Keeping our customers informed
The UK is in the process of developing how
we treat and dispose of our waste. Veolia
Environmental Services proactively helps
our customers to adjust to these important
changes, using a combination of free
updates, literature, seminars, roadshows,
exhibitions and online services which offer
practical advice and guidance in a complex
and rapidly evolving market.
Realising the value of waste
Waste management is frequently treated
as the final stage in the business process,
requiring only enough attention to achieve
efficiency and economy and often regarded
as just another overhead. New legislation
and rising costs are stimulating a reversal
of this attitude, as more and more
businesses realise the true value of waste.
Veolia Environmental Services brings
international experience and environmental
innovation to its commercial waste
management services. Operating one of
the UK’s largest transport fleets from an
extensive network of strategically placed
service centres, we can provide specialist
equipment and localised services for
public and private sector businesses of
all types. From advanced compaction
systems to skips and weekly trade waste
collections, Veolia Environmental Services
provides reliable, progressive and
affordable waste management.

health and safety and environmental
issues which inevitably take valuable time
to resolve. To make sure we get it right
first time, Veolia Environmental Services
begins with an expert assessment of your
waste production and management
practices to evaluate your business needs
and to ensure you receive the right service.
We can often help identify ways to
minimise waste production as well as
implementing reliable recycling, collection,
treatment and disposal solutions.

restaurants where space or access can be an
issue, Veolia Environmental Services provides
light, manoeuvrable trade waste containers
serviced by a fleet of specialist mobile
compactors on a pre-arranged schedule.
Larger businesses such as manufacturing
and engineering firms producing heavy and
bulky waste can take advantage of a full

producing heavy or bulky building and
demolition wastes, Veolia Environmental
Services provides a full range of high

Our national capability and substantial local knowledge help us to provide a successful service.
Drawing on our international expertise and considerable experience of waste management in the UK,
we have established a network of strategically placed service centres, operating one of Europe’s largest
waste transport fleets. In some cases we can also supply an automatic ‘pay by weight’ system on our
mobile compaction vehicles, capturing data for monitoring, future invoicing and reporting by means
of an on-board computer.

Baling and compaction
For organisations producing larger quantities of waste, greater
efficiency can be achieved through installing advanced static
compaction or baling equipment. Depending on the type of
material, we can substantially reduce your waste volumes,
achieving maximum payloads per collection, minimising the storage
space required on your site, reducing the number of collections and
eliminating unnecessary journeys.
Improved hygiene

Reduced traffic congestion and pollution
Secure destruction
For many reasons, such as legislative obligations or confidentiality
agreements, businesses often need to know that their waste will
never reappear in any form. Veolia Environmental Services has
established an innovative secure destruction and recycling facility
offering finite destruction of waste and past shelf-life products
including beer, wine, soft drinks, tetra packs, canned goods, glass,
plastic bottles, milk and juices.
We can guarantee that waste material will lose all identity and will
be disposed of carefully and securely. Veolia Environmental Services
understands the importance of operating with integrity, and provides
certification to protect your products and your reputation.

packaging waste regulationsOne of the better-known legislative initiatives to be implemented in recent years is the Producer
Responsibility (Packaging Waste) Regulations 2005. Aimed at larger businesses in the packaging waste
chain, the regulations currently affect businesses with a turnover of £2m+ who also handle more than 50
tonnes of packaging per annum. These businesses are required to register and provide data on packaging
supplied. They must also calculate and meet stringent packaging recovery and recycling targets through
PRNs (Packaging Recovery Notes) and certify their compliance, or face criminal prosecution.

The Environmental Protection Act 1990 imposes a Duty of Care on
producers of controlled waste, requiring them to take all
reasonable steps to keep waste safe and ensure it is properly
managed. The Duty of Care applies to anyone who "produces or
imports, keeps or stores, transports, treats or disposes of waste".
This legal requirement ensures that all waste producers follow the
correct procedures for the containment, collection and disposal of
waste. Under the Act, a transfer note describing the waste must
be produced for every waste transfer.
It is your responsibility to give correct written information on your
Waste Transfer Note, signed by an authorised employee of your
company and kept for two years. Monitoring and inspection by the
Environment Agency has increased in recent years; if you break
this law, you risk prosecution.
Managing your obligations
Your obligations under this legislation can be fulfilled annually.
Veolia Environmental Services will supply you with your annual
Waste Transfer Notes two months before they are due for renewal
and will keep records of your Waste Transfer Notes for the required
two year period. Having your records on our database means we can
rapidly update and amend the system if your waste details or any
other aspects should change, at no further inconvenience to you.
Veolia Environmental Services manages this system for our clients
in order to ensure that they comply with the law and to provide
complete peace of mind. Our database is easily updated and is
available for inspection by the authorities at any time.

your duty of careAll companies who produce waste are subject to strict legislation.
This is simply practical environmental management and common sense,
but there are ways in which Veolia Environmental Services can lighten the
administrative burden that these obligations place on your company.
