Officers are required to film arrests:

Use of Force Incidents

Incidents likely to result in police action

Incidents that may hold evidentiary value

POLICY GOVERNING USE

Recorded videos are stored on a remote server

managed by Taser International and controlled by

the Columbia Heights Police Department.

Records are retained according to department

policy and state statute and based on the nature of

the incident (i.e. the more serious, the longer we

retain it)

Records are released per the rules set forth in state

statute.

FAQ’S

Is the video always recording?

Yes, when the camera is in the on position, there is a 30

second continuous video buffer.

Note: The officer will generally turn the camera off when in a

situation in which recording is not appropriate (i.e. locker room,

restroom, staff meeting, etc. )

Who has access to the recorded videos?

Each officer has access to view the videos they have

recorded.

Investigators and supervisors have access to view all

videos.

Public requests are handled according to Minnesota

State Statutes regarding the release of data.

Are we violating privacy laws?

No, the police (and the public) have a legal right to

record video wherever they have a legal right to be.

Devices are used according to industry best practices.
