Coelophysis

By Andrea Lothe

The Coelophysis were good runners, and could outrun their predators.

The Coelophysis were carnivores, and would eat other dinosaurs; including their own offspring if

hungry.

This was one of the predators they run away from.

Coelophysis could look like many trees and forest around them to help with hunting. Some of the most common colors were browns, tans, and light greens.

Coelophysis, meaning "hollow form" in reference to its hollow bones is one of the earliest known genre of dinosaur. It was a small, carnivorous biped that lived during the

Late Triassic stage of the southwestern United States, with scattered material representing similar animals to Coelophysis found worldwide in some Late Triassic and

Early Jurassic formations.

• The length of a Coelophysis is 3 meters.

• They had a long neck, almost as long as a baby giraffes.

• They had three toes and three claws for hands.

• They're foot length is 4 inches long!

• It’s also called the lizard-hipped dinosaur.

Some people believe that the dinosaurs were killed by meteors... Do you?

They had very sharp teeth used for cracking eggs open and chewing through the muscles of a dinosaur that they

would eat for a snack.

This is one of their cousins. He looks almost the same as the Coelophysis.

A Coelophysis egg is very large compared to a ducks egg.

The duck egg is the real size.↑

Coelophysis drink water, and some scientists believe that they died out from poisoned water.

As you can see, the head of the Coelophysis is oval and pointed forward. The ears were large on the skull,

but in reality, it’s ears were very small.

The bones of a baby Coelophysis is in the stomach of it’s mother.

Coelophysis facts:• Named by: Cope and Colbert (1964)• Also known as: Rioarribasaurus• Where it was found: United States• Length: up to 3m• Height: 2m• Weight: 27kg• How it moved: it moved on two legs• Teeth: small and sharp• Type of feeder: carnivorous• Food it ate: vertebrates• When it lived: 216-203m years ago (Late Triassic)• Dinosaur order: saurischian (lizard-hipped) • Other info: This very early dinosaur is known to have herded, as

many skeletons were found in close proximity.

Coelophysis lived in the forest and the jungle. Some- if unlucky- lived in the desert, and were

killed from lack of water.
