What is a Opening Sequence?

An opening sequence is the method in which production and cast members are presented

to an audience using sound and visuals to create an atmosphere. Often a theme tune is

played during an opening sequence.

Opening Sequences state:

• Title of film• Key cast members• Producer• Distributor• Director• Editor• Executive producer

+

• At the beginning of this opening sequence a waterfall sound effect is played as the audience is shown footage of Daniel Craig plunging into water passing a waterfall.

The background behindthe title of the film emphasises the name ofthe film as it looks like theactor is falling through thesky

These two shots symbolise the death and violence to come in the film

This medium close up also introduces the audience to a character

The opening sequence ends with the camera zooming in to the main character’s eye with the director’s name which shows the director’s status

The directors name is shown at the beginning of the opening title sequence again showing the director’s importance

Here a medium shot of the main character’s back is shown behind the bold film title. The text is red connoting the killings and pain in the film just as the main character’s back

The camera continues to follow this character, giving the audience an idea of the main character in the film

This is an example of giving the viewers an insight on the film’s location
