ABSTRACT:

Mobile systems have limited resources such as battery lifetime, N/W Band width, storage capacity & processor performance.

These restrictions can be alleviated by computation offloading.

Cloud computing is a new paradigm in which computing resources are not physically present at users location.

So cloud computing can provide energy savings as a service to mobile users.

INTRODUCTION:

In the recent years there are many advancements in the Computing Technology.

The usage of computers started from Desktops, Main Frames ,Laptops & now Mobile phones.

In mobile phones now we are using embedded applications like Environmental Sensing & Gprs Navigation.

Most of these applications use wireless N/w’s & their Bandwidths are lower than wired N/w’s

WHAT CLOUD GIVES US, GENERALLY

If you want to set up a business.

Low initial capital investment Shorter start-up time for new services Lower maintenance and operation costs Easier disaster recovery

THE IMPORTANCE OF BATTERY LIFE-TIME OF MOBILE PHONES:Various studies have identified longer batterylifetime as the most desired feature of suchsystems.

Longer battery life to be more important than all other features, including cameras or storage.

Short battery life to be the most disliked characteristic of Apple’s iPhone 3GS

Battery life was the top concern of music phone users

CAN OFFLOADING THESE APPLICATIONS TO THE CLOUD SAVE ENERGY AND EXTEND BATTERY LIFETIMES FOR MOBILE USERS?

How to implement a quantitative study. The amount of energy saved is

S : The speed of cloud to compute C instructions

M : The speed of mobile to compute C instructions

D : The data need to transmitB : The bandwidth of the wireless Internet

SAMPLE APPLICATIONS NOT BENEFITING FROM OFFLOADING Regions like national parks The basement of a building Interior of a tunnel, Subway. In these cases, where the value of B in Equation can becomevery small or even zero, cloud computing doesnot save energy.

FUNDAMENTAL ASSUMPTIONS: There is a fundamental assumptionunder-lying this analysis with the client-servermodel: Because the server does not alreadycontain the data, all the data must be sent tothe service provider. However, cloud computing changes thatassumption: The cloud stores data and

performscomputation on it.

WHEN CONSIDERING PRIVACY AND SECURITY:ENCRYPTION

WHEN CONSIDERING PRIVACY AND SECURITY:STEGANOGRAPHY

CONCLUSION:

CONCLUSION: Cloud computing can potentially save energyfor mobile users.

Not all applications are energy efficient when migrated to the cloud.
