– Attend one hour training– Record at least two classes– Teach in a TEC II classroom– Complete a survey in December– Have students complete a survey in December

• Copyright Issues– Policies will be developed for publishing in the public domain– Use caution – security is only medium– For pilot no public publishing please – bandwidth limitations

Camtasia Relay Overview

• Screen capture with audio – no video• 3 components

– Camtasia Relay Server Account control

All faculty and staff with umb.edu email addresses have accounts

Encoding of content Storage of backup files

– Camtasia Relay Recorder (client software) Records your lecture Installed on any WinPC or Mac Captures computer screen and audio Uploads captured content to server

– Publishing Site Off-campus hosted server Provides private hosting

Camtasia Relay Recording

• Launch Camtasia Relay Recorder on local machine– Optionally launch PowerPoint add-in

• Login• Select profile for recording• Name file

– Lectures - course section last first Eng101 1 melcher ray

– All others – dept last first filename• Record screen activity and voice• Submit file to server for encoding and publishing

Camtasia Relay Publishing

• Profile specifies publishing site(s)• Pilot – screencast.com only• Eventually youtube, iTunes U, others• Link to content emailed to account owner• Account owner distributes link to intended viewers• Content is private by default• Optionally content can be made public

Camtasia Relay Profiles

• Specifies recording quality (5 fps or 10 fps)• Specifies encoding type(s)• Specifies playback window size• For each encoding type specifies a publishing destination• Created by admin – individuals cannot create

• 2 copies of recording– Backup stored on server– Published version on Screencast.com

Camtasia Relay Editing

• Camtasia Relay has limited editing capabilities– Content can be trimmed before submission

• Can be edited with Camtasia Studio ($179)– Copy is available in Digital Learning Studio– A profile must contain a Camtasia Studio encoding– Original recordings are either avi or mov

• Computers in DLS have Camtasia Studio

Hands On

• Launch recorder• Login to recorder• Select audio input• Set hot keys• View help screens• Select profile• Name file• Optionally enter description• Test microphone and adjust level if necessary

– Test runs for 10 seconds• Click record or ctrl + alt + p

– Wait for 3 - 4 seconds– If boundary mic remain close to keyboard– Repeat any questions

• Click stop or ctrl + alt + s• Preview recording• Optionally trim ends• Click submit

– Leave computer on for about 2 – 3 minutes

Hands On 2

• Check progress of encoding• Log in to server

– camtasia.umb.edu/relay• Go to presentations tab• Select processing from drop down• Cannot delete files – admin only• To download recorder

– Select download recorder– Select appropriate recorder for your OS– Download – save to desktop– Run

• Camtasia Relay shortcut placed on desktop• New program under Techsmith Camatsia Relay
