Class

Class is the amount of money you have, there are 3 classes:

Upper.

Middle.

Working.

Generally, upper class people are the most wealthy while the working class would be least wealthy.

Status

Status is the amount of power you have, and the amount of influence you have over any group of people or person. There are two groups of status:

High status

Low status

Someone with high status would be a teacher while the pupils would have low status.

Stereotypes of working class

Greasy hair

Living in a flat

Dirty house

Small garden

Lots of children

Wearing tracksuits or joggers

On benefits

Single parents

Stereotypes of middle class

Clean house

Wearing suits / dresses

Successful small businessmen, such as grocers and building contractors.

Retirees.

Medium-sized homes, often owned.

Careful with their money.

Careful to always look nice around other people.

Church-goers.

Old-fashioned home cooking.

Stereotypes of upper class

Old money.

education at top universities.

exclusive clubs.

careers in established law or financial firms or medical specialties.

Support for cultural activities – classical music, art museums.

Carefully-prepared meals, many of them at restaurants.

Often wearing business clothes, but even casual clothes are upper class styles – khaki not denim.

Monocle.

Stereotypes of low status

All blue collar workers e.g. plumber, electrician etc.

Cleaner

Fast food restaurant worker
