Citation Format

● Footnotes○ Most historical papers use footnotes or endnotes, both of

which are accessible through Word○ Place superscript at the end of cited work or quote.1

○ Insert > Footnote or Endnote○ Footnote will automatically appear at bottom of page with

the corresponding number/superscript.● Ibid.

○ Latin term meaning "Same as before"○ Use Ibid. if the next footnote/endnote is the same source

as the one listed directly above○ NOTE: For each source you cite, you must provide FULL

information the first time you cite it, and afterward you may use short hand (author's last name, page number) and/or Ibid.

Journal Article

Journal Article from Online Database-Same format, add Stable URL if one exists

Bibliography

● Additional page at end of paper● Same citation information, but different

format○ Listed alphabetically by last name or first word of

title if no author or editor is present○ Periods typically replace commas from footnotes and

capital letters are used to show a sense of formality and finality

○ Indent all citation information for each individual source that goes on to a second line, third line, etc.
