Choir News – March 2015
Hi everyone; a belated “welcome back” for 2015! It’s great to have many familiar faces returning this year. We also welcome new members Helen Goldsworthy, Rick Wylie, Maureen Sherlock, Kay Bennetts, Kathryn Williams and Judy Harrison!
ANCA WORKSHOP
On Saturday 21st March, fifteen Vocalize members will be participating in a full day workshop at Cabra College, entitled “Conductor and Choir – Working In Harmony”, run by the Australian National Choir Association. Looking forward to lots of fun as we gain new ideas, insights and techniques from guest choral presenter Jodie Spooner-‐Ryan.
MARION CELEBRATES FESTIVAL
On Sunday 29th March we will be having our first performance for the year at the City of Marion’s largest biannual community event. We are the final act, performing 4:30-‐5pm. Call time 3:45pm. We will meet close to the stage and find a place to organize our uniforms and warm up. A reminder that our uniform is plain black (full length pants/skirts desirable but not essential), with a loaned orange tie for men and orange scarf for women. We will be singing 5 songs from memory, in the following order:
1. Crazy Little Thing Called Love (CD backing)
2. Riversong (piano)
3. It Don’t Mean a Thing (CD backing)
4. You Raise Me Up (piano)
5. Gimme Some Lovin’ (piano + drums)
Please ensure you are adequately prepared with your parts.

GUEST PRESENTER -‐ THE MECHANICS OF SINGING
On Monday 30th March we will be treated to a half hour presentation by physiotherapist and seasoned public speaker Max Kavanagh. Max is passionate about sharing his experience and knowledge of fitness, posture and general well-‐being, and will be explaining the biomechanics of singing to us in a natural and engaging way. Bring your notepad!
CHOIR BIRTHDAY DINNER
Vocalize Choir started up on the 16th April 2012, and each year we have a little birthday celebration dinner. This year we will celebrate our 3rd birthday on the first week back from holidays, the 27th April at 7pm.
Please bring a savoury or a sweet to share, starting with the letter ‘C’ (for choir, of course!). Some ideas are: cake, chocolate, crackers, chips, casserole, cheese platter, carrots, celery, cucumber, corn, chicken, chorizo.. but of course feel free to think outside the box!
TERM 2 DIRECTOR
In Term 2 I will be taking maternity leave, during which we will be directed by friend and former Vocalize member Anthony Little. Anthony has been singing for many years in a variety of ensembles including choirs and musical theatre troupes. We look forward to having him in April! (Maybe he’ll be bringing Marcia Hines too?)
That’s about all for now – looking forward to the remainder of the term!
