Parting of the Red Sea

PPT By Barry and Earlinde

From The Holy Bible Exodus 13:17-14:31

Chapter 1: The story goes…Wait let’s introduce our heroes first.

Moses:

Well he has a long story… Like every hero, he has a complicated and somewhat miserable background story.

To be short, he is an Israelite and God’s servant who leads the Israelites to their freedom.

Chapter 1: The story goes…Wait let’s introduce our heroes first.

Pharaoh:

The bad guy.

He is the Egyptian king who refuses to set the Israelites free & who does not believe in God & who is eventually punished by the Lord.

End of the story.

Chapter 1: The story goes…Wait let’s introduce our heroes first.

The Lord:

The Hebrew’s God.

He has great power.

He is mysterious.

The main character of the entire Bible.

Chapter 2: And now officially the story begins…

• The Israelites had been enslaved and mistreated by Pharaoh for a long time.

• The Lord knew the their desire for freedom, so he sent Moses as his servant to help his people.

Chapter 2: And now officially the story begins…

• With the Lord’s help of pointing out the way day and night, Moses eventually led the Israelites to the edge of the Red Sea.

• The Lord hardened Pharaoh’s heart so he sent all his army to chase the Israelites.

Chapter 2: And now officially the story begins…

With the Red Sea ahead and Egyptian army behind, the Israelites were desperate and doubtful about the Lord and Moses.

At that moment, the Lord appeared and instructed Moses to split the sea apart. Moses then led the Israelites into the sea.

Chapter 2: And now officially the story begins…

When the army chased them into the sea, it closed again and killed them all.

Finally, the Israelites were saved. Having witnessed the power of their Lord, they now feared the Lord and believed in his servant Moses.

Chapter 3: Now let’s do some awesome analysis shall we ;) ?

Religious significance:

This is one of the most impressive demonstrations of the God’s power.

1)Showing the Israelites the way day and night.

2)Manipulation of Pharaoh.

3)Obviously, parting & closing of the Red Sea.

Chapter 3: Now let’s do some analysis shall we ;) ?

Literary significance:

1)Effective use of rhetorical strategies: Juxtaposition between God’s attitudes towards the Egyptians and Israelites.

2)Successful character depiction: Moses as obedient and pious, and even God has some traits of humanity, like desire and cruelty.
