• Lancaster is located in the Western New York region.

• New York is located in the Northeast region of the United States.

Plateau•Large, mostly flat area of land that rises above the surrounding land.

Continent

• Seven large land areas on Earth.

• New York is located in North America.

Hemisphere• Half of the

Earth.• North America

lies in the Northern and Western hemispheres.

Gorge

•A valley with very steep, rocky sides.

Estuary

•Inlet or arm of the sea.

Tributary

•Stream or river that flows into a larger river.

Human Features

•Something built by humans, such as a city.

Physical Features• Features of the

land, such as mountains and rivers.

• In New York we have mountains, rivers and lakes.

• New Yorkers can enjoy hiking, skiing and swimming all in New York.

Weather•Describes the air at a

certain time and place.•Two important parts of

weather are:–Temperature–Precipitation

Geography

•Geography is the study of Earth and the ways people use it.

Natural Resource

•Found in nature that people can use.

•Trees, water, soil and mineral are all natural resources.

Nonrenewable Resource

•Resources that cannot be replaced.

•Minerals such as clay and stone are nonrenewable.

•Oil and natural gas are also nonrenewable.

Conservation• The careful use of natural

resources.• Practicing conservation and

recycling will help protect our natural resources.
