INTRODUCTION

Adaptive cruise control that can automatically adjust a car‘s speed

and to maintain a safe following distance.

PRINCIPLE AND OPERATION OF ACC• Works by detecting the distance and Speed of vehicles ahead by radar sensor.

• Time taken to transmit and receive is the key principle for distance measurement.

• Speed can measured by frequency of the reflected beam by doppler effectWorks.

1. Distance Determination

R = c Tr /2

where,

R is range of the target,C is velocity of light,Tr is round trip time.

ADVANTAGES OF ACC

Seminar Automotive Sensors

Chair for Measurement and Sensor TechnologyUniv.-Prof. Dr.-Ing. O. Kanoun

• Fuel Efficiency of the vehicle is increased.

• Its very useful for long driving.

• It prevents accidents.

• Wide range of environmental conditions (dirt, fog, rain, ice, darkness).

Adaptive Cruise Control

18

CONCLUSION

• ACC system was developed for the purposes of driving safety and comfort.

• It reduces the number of brake and switch operations that are required to the driver.

• As a result, the system reduces the driving burden so that the driver can drive in comfort.
