Cell Poster Project

Poster due: Mon 11/30, Tues 12/01 (20 pts)

Poster is due @ the start of class.

Objective: create a color-coded poster showing how animal, plant, fungus, protist, and bacteria cells are similar/different.

Poster format:

ANIMAL CELL PLANT CELL FUNGAL CELL

PROTIST CELL BACTERIA CELL COLOR KEY

To complete this project, you will need to use the chart in your study guide:

Step 1: Find diagrams online for:

1. Animal cell

2. Plant cell

3. Fungal cell

4. Protist cell

5. Bacteria cell

Choose a diagram that has all or most of the organelles listed in your study guide.

Hint: use the word “diagram” in your Google search.

For example, this would be a bad diagram to use because it does not show all of a plant cell’s organelles.

Step 2: Decide how the organelles will be color-coded, and create a color key.

ANIMAL CELL PLANT CELL FUNGAL CELL

PROTIST CELL BACTERIA CELL COLOR KEY

Organelle colors must be consistent (the same for all cells.) For example, if the nucleus is turquoise in one cell, it must be turquoise in all the eukaryotic cells.

= Rough ER

= mitochondria

= chloroplasts

= DNA

Step 3: Sketch the cell diagrams onto your poster.

= Rough ER

= mitochondria

= DNA

= chloroplasts

No need to label the organelles, since they are color-coded.

Step 5: Color in the diagrams according to the color key.

Step 6: In each square, write answers to the bullet point questions.

ANIMAL CELL

• Prokaryote or Eukaryote?• Multi or Uni?• Specialized/not specialized?

For 4 pts. extra credit, use diagrams of specialized cells.

Remember to include the word “diagram” in your Google search.

Cells you can include in your poster:

Animal: Animal cell, myocyte, neuron, osteoblast

Plant: Plant cell, colenchyma, sclerenchyma

Fungus: Hyphal cell

Protist: Amoeba, euglena, paramecium

Bacteria: Prokaryote
