Since changing out our HilgeNovalobe lobe style pumps tothe QTS twin screw pump, wehave seen huge increases inuptime and consistency ofproduct delivery. The issue withthe lobe style pumps is that thelobes wear quickly with sugaryconfectionery and themechanical seals were failingregularly. We needed a pumpthat could handle the harshproduct and deliver consistentreliable product flow to ourprocess. The QTS pump hassaved us NZD $35000p.a inmaintenance and downtime. Wehave only replaced one seal kitin 15 months as routinemaintenance and the screws arestill in great condition. We’vealso had great feedback andsupport from our supplier interms of spares and service, Iwould recommend thesepumps to anyone who is facingthe same issue with their currentpump. By far the bestperforming pump we’ve hadand a wise investment

Challenge / IssueThe existing 16bar rated Hilge-Novalobe lobe pumpsrequired frequent lobe and seal replacement due to theabrasive nature of the sugary confectionery and thepressure required to feed the extruder. The cost ofongoing repairs was excessive, let alone downtime costthat is significantly higher than the repairs! The pumpservice life was around 4 weeks between failure.

Solution and ResultsAll Purpose Pumps delivered 3 x QTS100 pump sets withdrivers specifically to meet the duty required.  The pumpsare fitted with double mechanical seals with a warm waterflush which prevents the product ‘crystallising’ on the sealfaces. These pumps have been in operation for 15 monthswith just one seal change as planned preventativemaintenance.
