Our Mission Statement:
Investing in the health, education, development and therapeutic
supports of pre-school children with disabilities.
A CENTRE OF EXCELLENCEEstablished in 1943
Key Capabilities:Five locations in Calgary for our Early Intervention Programs serving over 300 childrenOutreach services to over 150 children in local child care agencies and independent kindergartensPediatric medical clinic
Success Factors:80 % of educational and therapeutic goals are met for each child.20 % of children improve from “severely disabled” to “mildly disabled” or “cured”.
Providence saves the Province of Alberta $120, 000 in future education costs for each child that shows significant improvement. For each dollar invested in our early intervention program, we save the Province $7 in
future health, education and social service costs.
Calgary Region: Facts regarding pre-school children with disabilities
Three to six thousand children under four have disabilities; many from low income familiesNumber of children requiring specialized educational services is increasing by 7% to 10 % each year. Many children in immigrant low income or high mobility families remain undiagnosed until they reach kindergarten or grade one.Children who do receive service spend over two hours per day being transported to agencies.Calgary’s population is increasing by about 2 % per year.
To serve a higher percentage of preschool children with disabilities in Calgary, specialized educational and therapeutic services must be
located in communities close to them.
