Does Niagara College Practice Sustainability?

• Niagara College practices sustainability in numerous aspects through the many conservation projects.

Ban of Water Bottles• As of September 2012, as part of the sustainability initiative imposed by

the college’s sustainability committee, Niagara College decided to ban selling plastic water bottles on campus.

• “Banning bottled water has the benefit of reducing waste of plastic bottles, supporting the notion [to which] everyone has the right to clean water and should not be sold as a commodity.” - Taryn Wilkinson, Environmental project Co-Ordinator (August 2012).

Welland Campus Re-development Project

• Completed in Spring 2010.• Academic Wing, Double-sized varsity gymnasium and

Athletic Center complete with “green roof,” new Student Center (The Core), expansion of the technology center, ect.

Other Campus Projects

• 10% reduction of Electricity Consumption.• 50% reduction of Paper Consumption.• 5% reduction of Water Consumption.• 10% reduction of Greenhouse Gas Emissions.
