ANSWER THE CALL BACKGROUND

!

•  Derived from a resolution at Fire-Rescue Canada 2014 to partner with Alberta and expand the program nationally!

•  Bring the Answer the Call program to a national level and improve nation-wide access to volunteer recruitment tools in order to increase volunteer firefighter recruitment in Canada !

OPPORTUNITY

!

•  Resolution made (Sept 2014)!

•  Agreement with AFCA in place (May 2015)!

•  Vince MacKenzie identified as the lead to help move this forward (June 2015)!

COMPLETED STEPS

!

•  The national Answer the Call program will be modelled after the current Alberta structure!

•  The Answer the Call program has the potential to become a fully national, integrated marketing campaign managed by CAFC & P/TA’s!

•  Each Canadian province and territory will have its own place to provide tailored information and tools approved by their respective associations!

PROGRAM FRAMEWORK APPROACH

!

1.  Generate awareness of the firefighting challenge in Canada!

2.  Equip fire departments with the materials and tools they need to be information hubs!

3.  Educate potential recruits across the country on what it takes to be a volunteer firefighter!

4.  Mobilize existing volunteer firefighters to spread the word!

5.  Celebrate and appreciate the monumental contributions of Canada’s volunteer firefighters!

CAMPAIGN OBJECTIVES

!WEBSITE

•  The focus of taking this nationally is to make information available via the website and therefore have a national reach!

•  Features may include: targeting applicants geographically, social media content, a searchable job board, etc.!

!

!TOOLKITS

•  Recruitment toolkits will be created and formatted to be housed on the website for downloading!

•  Customization will be available based on department needs!

!

!

•  Creation of a volunteer working group/committee to manage Answer the Call on national scale!

•  Explore relevant opportunities around existing programs (e.g., Beyond Helmets & Hoses)!

•  CAFC will be responsible for maintaining the program website and tools!

WORKING GROUP MANAGEMENT

!

•  Launch workshop with partners (Nov 2015)!

•  Begin building out website and tools (Jan / Feb 2016)!

•  Review initial version of website and tools (Spring 2016)!
