The branch of knowledge that deals with the creation and use of technical means and their interrelation with life, society, and the environment, drawing upon such subjects as industrial arts, engineering, applied science, and pure science.

The abacus, also called a counting frame, is a calculating tool used primarily in parts of Asia for performing arithmetic processes.

It was in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1746 that Franklin first stumbled upon other scientists' electrical experiments.

During one experiment, Ben accidentally shocked himself. Franklin spent the summer of 1747 conducting a series of groundbreaking experiments with electricity.

While on a train ride, after observing a vacuum redistributing dust from chairs, Booth got the idea that a vacuum should capture dust.

He tested his idea by putting a handkerchief across his mouth and sucking as much dust as possible into the handkerchief.

An American physicist who made the first LASER (Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation).

Lasers amplify light waves of atoms that have been stimulated to radiate and concentrate them in a very narrow, intense beam.

Computer engineer, Ray Tomlinson invented internet based email in late 1971.

Under ARPAnet several major innovations occurred: email (or electronic mail), the ability to send simple messages to another person across the network

Sony released the first consumer camcorder the Betamovie BMC-100P. It used a Betamax cassette and could not be held with one hand, so it was typically resting on a shoulder. In the same year JVC released the first camcorder based on VHS-C format.

Digital radio broadcasting technologies, such as the digital audio broadcasting (DAB) system, also known as Eureka 147.

In these systems, the analog audio signal is digitized into zeros and ones, compressed using formats such as mp2, and transmitted using a digital modulation scheme.
