Know the Early Signs of DiabetesDiabetes is a life changing condition that affects an individual’s ability to produce and/or use insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is produced when blood levels of glucose rise beyond a certain threshold. Its job is to instruct the body to absorb that glucose where it can then be used to provide energy for various activities and/or be stored as fat.
Sugar can be destructive when it is allowed to build up, causing nerve damage and more. If blood sugar is not managed, patients can risk losing limbs, vision or going into shock or coma.
The following are early signs of diabetes:
The good news is that diabetes is highly manageable. What’s crucial is that you are able to spot the signs of diabetes early. Know the warning signs and if there are additional questions and/or concerns, always check with your physician.
• Fatigue•Hunger•Constant urination•Thirstiness•Blurred vision•Headaches
• Insomnia•Mood changes•Yeast infection• Slow healing • Pain and numbness

•Weight loss•Change in heart rate•Nausea• Family history•Risk factors

In today’s society it is said that we have forsaken the village for the metropolis, turning our neighbors into strangers, and losing the word “community” from our lexicon.
We see things differently...

DIABETES & NUTRITION – A GREAT LEARNING EXPERIENCEThe presentation about ways to a living healthy with Diabetes was full of helpful tips and guidelines. Both speakers, registered dietitian Julia Migone and diabetes educator Colleen Symanski shared their wealth of knowledge and participants asked some interesting questions. We are sharing some of the information throughout this and future Bulletins.

Hadassah was founded in 1912 and is one of the largest and oldest charities organized and run by women. Here in Vitalia, we are also a club. We meet in the clubhouse and our fundraisers are open to all residents. Vitalia is still growing and so are we. I am reminding everyone to RSVP as soon as they know they want to attend a fundraiser. Remember, your check is your reservation. We are limited in space, so sending in your RSVP early ensures that our members are not disappointed.
We can only send out reminders to members in good standing, so please, remind your friends. They can find dates and information in our monthly Bulletin (sent to members), on our website – hadassahlove.com – or in the Vitalia Voice.
This year, our funds are being donated to Diabetes Research. Help us by attending our events, purchasing greeting cards, memo-rial lights or leaves on our Trees of Honor and Remembrance. Why not volunteer to assist with a fund raiser? Or donate – gifts, gift baskets, gift cards or baked goods. More importantly, become involved and meet new friends, all for a good cause and a great organization.
We look forward to sharing special moments with you.
