If you wear a hearing aid, please note that theFreestyle 2010 works by sending radio signalsbetween the base station and the handset. Thesesignals may interfere with some hearing aids,causing a humming noise.

Safety information
General
Only use the power supply included with the product. Using an unauthorisedpower supply will invalidate your guaranteeand may damage the telephone. The itemnumber for the mains power supply is005977.
Only use the approved rechargeablebatteries supplied. Spare rechargeablebatteries – are available from the FreestyleHelpline 0870 240 3962.
If the keypad is locked, it is STILL possibleto make emergency calls to 999 and 112.
Do not open the handset (except to replacethe handset batteries) or base station. Thiscould expose you to high voltages or otherrisks. Contact the helpline for all repairs.
Radio signals transmitted between thehandset and base may cause interference tohearing aids.
It is recommended that advice from aqualified expert be sought before using thisproduct in the vicinity of emergency/intensive care medical equipment.
It is recommended that if you have apacemaker fitted you check with a medicalexpert before using this product.
Never dispose of batteries in a fire. There is a serious risk of explosion and/ orthe release of highly toxic chemicals.
Cleaning
Simply clean the handset and base station with a damp (not wet) cloth, or an antistaticwipe. Never use household polish as this will damage the product. Never use a dry cloth as this may cause a static shock.
Environmental
Do not expose to direct sunlight.
The product may heat up when the batteriesare being recharged or during prolongedperiods of use. This is normal. However, werecommend that you do not place the producton antique/ veneered wood to avoid damage.
Do not stand your product on carpets or othersurfaces which generate fibres, or place it inlocations preventing free flow of air over itssurfaces.
Do not submerge any part of your product inwater and do not use it in damp or humidconditions, such as in bathrooms.
Do not expose your product to fire, explosiveor other hazardous conditions.
There is a slight chance that your phonecould be damaged by an electrical storm. We recommend that you unplug the powerand telephone line cord for the duration of the storm.

Setting upFollow these steps to set up your Freestyle 2010 ready for use
Plan the location of yourFreestyle 2010
The following points should be considered:
• Situate your product close enough to thepower socket so that the cable will reachsafely without stretching. Ensure that youplan the location so that the mains power is easily accessible in case you need todisconnect the power.
• Make sure it is at least 1 metre away from other electrical productsto avoid interference.
Please note
The Freestyle 2010 has a range of up to 300metres outdoors and up to 50 metres indoors.The range will be reduced when there is noclear line of sight between the base andhandset. Thick stone walls can severely affectthe range.
Plug the power cable into the power socket onyour Freestyle base station and route the cordaround the catch at the top as shown.
Plug the adaptor into the mains power supplyand switch on.

Before you use your Freestyle 2010 for thefirst time, it is important to have the handsetbatteries fully charged. The batteries need tocharge continuously for at least 16 hours toreach full charge.
Place the handset on the base. The handsetcomes pre-registered to the base station asFREESTYLE 1. This is shown on the display.
The battery symbol is also shown on thedisplay. It flashes during charging. Once thehandset is fully charged, the display shows afull battery symbol.
3 Charge the handset batteries for at least 16 hours

Battery low warning.If the handset battery symbol is empty andflashing, and you hear a warning beep every10 seconds, you will need to recharge yourhandset before you can use it.
Battery performanceUnder no circumstances should non-rechargeable batteries be used. Only usethe approved batteries, type: rechargeableNickel Metal Hydride (NiMH); Size AAA;Capacity 600 mAh. Using unapprovedbatteries will invalidate your guarantee andmay damage the telephone.
To keep your battery in the best condition,leave the handset off the base station for afew hours at a time (after the initial 16 hourcharge).
Please note, however, that new Nickel MetalHydride (Ni-MH) batteries do not reach theirfull capacity until they have been in normaluse for several days.
Fully discharging the batteries at least oncea week will help them to last as long aspossible. However, the charge capacity ofrechargeable batteries will reduce with timeas they wear out, so reducing thetalk/standby time of the handset. Eventuallythey will need to be replaced.

2 Install the rechargeablebatteries in the handset
The handset uses two rechargeable NickelMetal Hydride (Ni-MH) AAA batteries whichare supplied. Take care to insert the batteriesas shown and then fit the battery cover (thebattery cover may be found in the packagingwith the batteries).

Please note
Under ideal conditions, the handset batteryshould give about 12 hours talktime or 120hours standby on a single charge. Optimumtimes for talk and standby are only achievedwhen the handset batteries are new and fullycharged.

Please note
It is recommended that you do not connectthe telephone line cord to the phone socketuntil your handset is fully charged. This willprevent the risk of the batteries dischargingduring a conversation, which would causeyou to lose the call.
If you do not have modern phone sockets, callFreefone 0800 800 150 and ask for a BTengineer to come and fit the correct type. Thisis a chargeable service.
Your Freestyle 2010 is now ready for use
5 Connect the telephone line cord
Pre-set PINsYour Freestyle 2010 comes with a pre-setPIN which you will need to use to performvarious functions on your phone.
When you enter the PIN, the display will notshow it for security reasons.
The PIN, pre-set to 0000, is used whenadjusting base station settings andregistering new handsets. It can be changed.

Using your Freestyle 2010telephone
Please note
To exit and return to the previous menu atany time, press the ✘ button. If you keeppressing the ✘ button you will return to thestandby screen.
Press the TALK button. The display will show the iconand you will hear the dial tone.
Enter the telephone number. The number is dialled automatically.
To make a call
Making and receiving calls
Preparatory dialling allows you toenter the number before pressingthe TALK button. This enables youto correct any mistakes before youactually make the call.
First enter the telephone number tobe dialled.

When you have entered the numbercorrectly, press the TALK button todial the number.

To end a call

If you have subscribed to a CallerDisplay Service your caller’s numberwill be shown (or the name if it isstored in your directory).

Enter the number you want to dial.

The withhold code will be dialledand then the telephone number.

When you have reached the levelyou require, press the ✔ button.The volume will not change until the ✔ is pressed.
The display will show STORED.

When on a call you can talk to someone in thesame room without your caller hearing.
During a call:

You can store up to 27 of your most frequentlydialled names and numbers in your Freestyle2010: 20 in the personal directory and 7 in theshared directory. Please note that names canbe up to 11 characters and numbers up to 24digits long.
Names and numbers in the shared directorycan be accessed by other Freestyle 2010handsets that are registered to your base.
Press the PERSONAL DIRECTORYbutton.
The display will show EMPTY if thereare no numbers stored.
Press the MENU button.
The display will show NEW.
Press the ✔ button.
The display will show a flashingcursor and NUMBER (or FULL if thedirectory is already full).

Caller Display and Call Waiting
Important
To use Caller Display or Call Waiting you mustfirst subscribe to your network provider's CallerDisplay or Call Waiting Service. A quarterlyfee is payable.

Using Caller Display
If you subscribe to a Caller Display Serviceyou can see your caller’s number (provided itis not withheld) on your handset displaybefore you answer the call. If you have yourcaller’s name and number stored in yourpersonal directory, you will see the name ofyour caller displayed instead of the number.(Please note your Freestyle 2010 will notmatch incoming numbers to names stored inthe shared directory.)
When a call is not answered (or is answered ona telephone on another extension), your caller’stelephone number (or name if stored in thedirectory) will be stored in a Calls list. TheCalls list holds up to 10 calls. When the Callslist is full the oldest call will be replaced by anew call, but the latest call will always be at thetop of the list. If a caller rings again their numberor (name) will move to the top of the list.
Ringback calls will display the number dialledwhen you requested the ringback service.
New call indicationWhen a new call is received in the Calls list thedisplay will show NEW CALLS. This messagewill remain on the display until you have viewedall new calls in the Calls list.

Using additional handsetsand basesAs well as your original handset, you canregister up to a further 4 additional handsets toyour Freestyle 2010 base station. You can alsoregister and use your handset on up to 4 basestations to build up a comprehensive telephonesystem.
If you have additional handsets registered tothe base you can make internal calls andtransfer calls between handsets. Two handsetscan be on an internal call while a third ismaking an external call. You can even have athree-way conversation.
Please note
Each additional handset you purchase mustbe registered to the base station and youmust remember to charge new handsets forat least 16 hours before use. When a newhandset is switched on the display will showREGISTER! to indicate that it needs to beregistered to a base station.

Is the telephone line cord plugged into thephone socket?
Check that the base station is connected to themains power and switched on.
You cannot link up with the base station
Is the display flashing?
Check that the mains power cable is connectedat the base and switched on.
Are you in range of the base station?
Batteries could be low or flat.
If using more than one base station, check thatyou have the correct base selected. See page 35.
Handset does not ring
The ringer volume may be switched to off. To adjust the ringer volume on thehandset, see page 24.
Check that the base station is plugged into thephone socket.

Replacing the handset battery
After a time, you may find that the handsetbattery is running out of charge more quickly.This is a standard sign of wear and the batterywill need replacing.
Slide the battery compartment cover off asshown. Take out the old batteries and replacewith new batteries. Only use the approvedbatteries, see page 10 for details.
Spare rechargeable batteries are available fromthe Freestyle 2010 Helpline 0870 240 3962.
Do not immerse batteries in water or throwthem into a fire, or dispose of them withordinary domestic refuse.
BT accepts no responsibility for damage causedto your Freestyle handset by using any othertypes of batteries.
No display appears
The batteries may be flat, dead or incorrectlyinserted. Recharge or replace the batteries.
The handset may be switched off.

It is recommended that you place yourFreestyle 2010 and other Freestyle handsets atleast one metre away from such appliances toavoid any risk of interference.
The charger does not appear to be working
Check that:
• The power adaptor is properly plugged intothe charger.
• Your handset has slotted correctly into thecharger.
• The battery is correctly fitted into the handset.

Guarantee
Your Freestyle 2010 is guaranteed for a periodof 12 months from the date of purchase.
Subject to the terms listed below the guaranteewill provide for the repair of, or at BT’s or itsagent’s discretion, the option to replace theFreestyle 2010, or any component thereof,(other than batteries), which is identified asfaulty or below standard, or as a result ofinferior workmanship or materials. Productsover 28 days old from the date of purchase maybe replaced with a refurbished product.
The conditions of this guarantee are:• The guarantee shall only apply to defects that
occur within the 12 month guarantee period.
• Proof of purchase is provided.
• The equipment is returned to BT or its agentas instructed.
• This guarantee does not cover any faults or defects caused by accidents, misuse, fairwear and tear, neglect, tampering with theequipment, or any attempt at adjustment orrepair other than through approved agents.
• This guarantee does not affect yourstatutory rights.

If the problem is not remedied, you will beadvised to return your product.

If you have to return your product:If the Helpline is unable to remedy yourproblem they will ask you to return the product.Pack the base station and handset securely,preferably in the original packaging. How many telephones can you have?
All items of telephone equipment have aRinger Equivalence Number (REN), which isused to calculate the number of items which maybe connected to any one telephone line. YourFreestyle 2010 has a REN of 1. A total REN of 4 is allowed, if the total REN of 4 is exceeded,the telephones may not ring.
With different telephone types there is noguarantee of ringing, even when the REN isless than 4.
Only use approved power supply, item code005977.
Only use approved rechargeable batteries.
Switchboard compatibility
This product is intended for use within the UKfor connection to the public telephone networkand compatible switchboards, which supporttone dialling and timed break recall. If in doubtplease consult your switchboard maintainer.
Technical information
Switchboard external lineaccess code
If you have connected your Freestyle 2010 to aswitchboard and the switchboard requires youto wait for a dial tone after dialling the accesscode needed to make an external call, you canprogram your Freestyle 2010 to automaticallywait for a dial tone.
This means you will not need to insert a pauseafter the access code on numbers you store inthe directory.
Press the MENU button.
The display will show REDIAL.
Press the DOWN button until thedisplay shows BS SETTINGS.
Press the ✔ button.
The display will show AUDIO.
Press the DOWN button until thedisplay shows PABX CODE.
Press the ✔ button.
Enter the code (e.g. 9) and thenpress the ✔ button.
The display shows STORED andthen EXT ACCESS.
The display will show a flashingcursor and ACCESS CODE?
Press the ✘ button to return to thestandby screen.
When an access code has been set,whenever your Freestyle 2010 seesthe access code as the first digit(s)of a dialled number, it will wait untilit hears the dial tone before it dialsthe rest of the number.
