• Coat the metals with a film of oil or wax (tectyl), which also contains corrosion inhibitors

• Inhibit the entry of moisture

• Harder coatings (tectyl) need to be cleaned with a solvent

• Oil residues & cleaning sediments require disposal

• Necessary to re-protect at each processing stage

• Small holes may plug up, & passages could become sticky

• Metal parts have to be oiled completely – no gaps can be left

• Harmful (occupational safety)

• Storage for hazardous goods is necessary

• Dust easily sits on oiled parts

• One of the most expensive preservation methods

• Recycling problems with laminated aluminum foils used for wrapping

• The amount of desiccant must be determined correctly by accounting for moisture in the wood

• Loose desiccant (silica gel) is partly corrosive

Hints • Product usage needs to be explained, because the different VCI types

are metal-specific

• The wrong VCI type may attack the metal

• Keep the printed side outwards, since it often possesses special

properties

• The packaging must be sealed as tightly as possible (avoid draughts).

The more tight the outer packaging, the more long-lasting and secure the

corrosion protection
