Boltight Ltd Rotor Tooling

Introduction

• Rotor stacks consist of several rows or stages of blades

• Normally held together with a circle of long through studs called rotor spindle bolts (*)

• The rotor bolts are tightned to both compress the rotor stages and to load/stretch the bolts

• The bolts must be tightened accurately and evenly to ensure the rotor is balanced

• A well balanced rotor increases the life of the turbine and reduces the need to maintenance shut downs

• The bolt loads are high due to the interference between the rotor stages

* - some models consist of one larger central stud

Introduction

• Bolt Tensioning is the preferred method of tightening rotor bolts

• These tools are designed to fit specific rotor stacks in terms of load and fit

• They are also designed to be linked together so as to apply uniform load to every bolt in the rotor

• This means the user ends up with a balanced rotor first time, thus eliminating the need for rework

• Standard tensioners will not be suitable for this application

Rotor Bolt Tooling

BOLTIGHT offer a range of Gas Turbine Rotor Tooling for use on various rotor frames.

They feature the latest technology in product design, ancillary equipment and materials selection which makes them lightweight, compact and easy to use.

BOLTIGHT tensioners are proven and tested with major OEM’s and service providers

Benefits

When tensioning rotor bolts you get accurate and uniform bolt loads, which gives uniform compression of the rotor and a balanced rotor. This means that there is no time spent re-working the bolt loads and re-balancing the rotor.

Benefits

• Positive piston stop (prevents seal failure and

resultant oil seepage onto the rotor)

• Automatic piston retraction

• Lightweight design - avoids the use of the workshop

crane

• Fast Operation – often only one work team is

responsible and accountable

• Accuracy and uniformity of the bolt load/stretch

• Reduced time on adjustments and improves the

uniformity of the rotor with resultant success in

balancing.

Benefits

• Database of designs for all common gas turbine models

• Many models are stocked • Rental option available Our tooling database includes:

• 9FA • 7FA • 9E • 7E • 6FA • 6B • 5

• 3 • W501D4 • V251 • V101 • 501F • 501G
