Bob began his career officiating basketball in Newark around 1938 and continued as an active referee through the 1972-73 season. He was a member of the North Jersey Board of Approved Basketball Officials, serving as its chairman in 1963-64, as well as the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials. Bob refereed many county and state high school championships in New Jersey along with having a full schedule of college games. In the 1950s and ‘60s, Bob traveled to a half-dozen foreign countries officiating in international basketball tournaments. They were as follows:

1. March 5-20, 1954: VII Central American & Caribbean Games - Mexico City

2. March 12-26, 1955: Pan-American Games - Mexico City

3. Aug. 13-31, 1955: 16th South American Basketball

Championships - Cali, Colombia

4. Aug. 27 – Sept. 7: Pan-American Games – Chicago

5. April 1966: Central American Basketball Championships – Guatemala

6. July 23 – Aug. 6, 1967: Pan-American Games – Winnipeg,

Canada
