The BerkshiresWEDDING AND EVENT DIRECTORY

1

The Berkshires, rich in history, outdoor activities, cultural events, and stunning natural beauty, is comprised of 32 cities and towns in Western Massachusetts: Adams, Alford, Becket, Cheshire, Clarksburg, Dalton, Egremont, Florida, Great Barrington, Hancock, Hinsdale, Lanesborough, Lee, Lenox, Monterey, Mt. Washington, New Ashford, New Marlborough, North Adams, Otis, Peru, Pittsfield, Richmond, Sandisfield, Savoy, Sheffield, Stockbridge, Tyringham, Washington, West Stockbridge, Williamstown, and Windsor.

Lenox, dubbed "the inland Newport" in the 19th century, is a charming town tucked in a scenic area of the Berkshires. It is perhaps best known for Tanglewood, being the former residence of literary legend Edith Wharton, and the home to scores of Gilded Age mansions. Many of these "Berkshire Cottages," have been maintained and restored and are host to many premier weddings and events. The Berkshires is also home to an abundance of museums, charming old buildings, and beautifully restored barns. There is something for everyone in these mountains!

Located in the “Old Berkshire” village of New Marlboro, Gedney Farm represents the fusion of rusticity and modernity. Formerly a horse barn, the cupola-adorned, three-tiered Event Barn now provides the ideal setting for the quintessential “Barn Wedding” reception. Sunlight and candlelight dance on the rafters inside this Normandy-style barn, while thirty-seven acres of pastures and high open meadows await outside.

Located a short stroll from the barn, the “Wedding Knoll” with its iconic cherry tree afford an unrivaled backdrop, au natural, for an outdoor ceremony.

Across the courtyard from the Event Barn stands the original dairy barn, which has been transformed into a unique complex of guest rooms and suites. Gedney’s lodging barn houses sixteen guest suites, many complete with whirlpool tubs, original exposed wood beams and wood burning fireplaces. Both barns reflect the architectural and aesthetic genius of owners Bradford Wagstaff and Leslie Miller, who successfully preserved the barn’s original framework alongside the innovative interior redesign.

The Kemble Inn’s history spans three centuries, combining noteworthy historical architecture, modern designer class and capital-style contemporary American dining: the perfect venue for your wedding. Built in a walk-to-town location in the 1880’s by the family of then US Secretary of State Frederick Theodore Frelinghuysen, the new ownership of the inn since 2010 has extensively restored and renovated the mansion with contempo-rary furnishings and flair. Our spacious and welcoming public spaces include remarkable and memorable interior and exterior venues for your wedding. Chef Ron Reda, who led the culinary team at the Clinton White House in

this century, now heads the kitchen at Table Six Restaurant. The inn’s 13 guest rooms are all fitted with Ralph Lauren bedlinens, large Sony flat screen televisions, and free wi-fi. Most guest rooms are larger than 300 square feet. Half of the rooms have working fireplaces. For the lucky wedding couple there is a choice of two oversized suites with king size beds — one of which has a two person Jacuzzi bath beside a fireplace, the other boasts a two-person spa/steam walk-in shower. The inn serves an award-winning breakfast to all guests that has been recognized by the New York Times and the LA Times as the ‘best in the Berkshires.’

MASS MoCA is a lot of things. We show work by both well-known and

emerging artists, often focusing on large and complex installations. One of our galleries is as big as a football field; and that’s just one out of 36 galleries in a post-and-beam, brick-walled factory campus that once made cloth for Civil War soldiers. With the exception of two very long term “temporary” exhibitions of the work of Sol LeWitt and Anselm Kiefer, everything in MASS MoCA’s galleries changes every year.

We’re a performing arts center. Indeed, we spend a full half of our financial, emotional

and technical bandwidth on presenting and producing works of performing arts, present-ing well over 80 events per year, all year long, including music (from Beck to bluegrass, from Wilco to the western swing), dance (Sheng Wei, Bill T. Jones), dance parties, film with live music, documentaries, avant-garde theater, and several large — and growing — festivals, which attract up to 8,000 patrons per day.

And at the end of the day, we're also a powerful catalyst for economic revitalization in a New England mill city, and we take that work as a central part of mission with great pride.

Set atop a pastoral knoll in the heart of the Berkshires, Wheatleigh combines the grandeur of a historic mansion with the intimacy of a country cottage. This idyllic setting was the site of many grand parties and musical events during the Gilded Age, and is now available to an exclusive few for a fairy-tale wedding or the social event of a lifetime. Just two-and-a-half hours by car from New York and Boston, there is no more romantic wedding destination than Wheatleigh.

Built as a “summer cottage” by Henry H. Cook in 1893 as a wedding gift for his daughter, Wheatleigh was designed by the renowned Boston architectural firm of Peabody and Stearns based on a 16th-century Florentine Palazzo. More than 150 artisans were brought from Italy to accomplish the intricate carvings on both the interior and exterior of the estate. Landscape architect Frederick Law Olmstead, best known for his design of Central Park in New York, was responsible for creating “Wheatleigh Park” on the surrounding acreage.
