BELCHERTOWN STATE SCHOOLS

INTRODUCTION

Unfortunately this plot of land filled with wonderfully old buildings is going to be knocked down soon to be replaced with a senior center. For some of my friends and I, this is actually really upsetting. We

really enjoy old buildings and the Belchertown State Schools are some of the most interesting ones around. I would like

to show you the beauty of these old buildings before they’re gone.

One of the first things you’ll see when you step onto the property, as long as no trees are in your way, is the gorgeous clock tower.

Any window that isn’t boarded up is bound to be broken whether is be from animals or disrespectful people.

There are several white houses along the back side of the property that may have housed some of the workers while the state school was still up and running. While standing outside of this building with my friend, our conversation was interrupted by the sound of a desk drawer being slammed shut and a loud bang on some wood.

The plants grow and weave into the paths and make you feel completely surrounded.

Some buildings can be quite a surprise to find. Many are being enveloped by vines and plants during the summer.

The wall may read “No Trespassing”, but inside the building is a mess from intruders trashing what was left behind. Couches turned over, old documents, and shattered glass covering the floor.

Out of all the buildings on the property, the white houses in the back have me drawn to them more than anything.

Through the broken windows, some part of me hopes to see a shadow move or catch a face staring back at me.

On my way around the back of the hospital building, I look up and see two small windows. Why are there no others like that?

To try and keep people from going into the hospital, town officials ripped off the ramp that went into the front entrance. They obviously didn’t realize that if people really want to get in, they will. The back door was ripped off the hinges and wasn’t hard to find.

Even with all the over-grown plants, something about these abandoned buildings is beautiful.

Even with the vines twisting into the path, it’s still quite a nice place to walk around and enjoy the old buildings.

One of the other possible entrances into the hospital, is the door that goes straight to the morgue.

The door down to the morgue is even creepier farther away. Not sure who was the first person to open that door and go in there, but why would you want to go in there? WHY?!

Out of all the buildings, the one with the clock tower honestly is the most interesting and eye catching.

During the summer when the vines are covered in leaves, its possible for them to hide a good portion of the building and make it look like a giant bush.

We are drawn to take multiple pictures of this building, especially this window, because we keep hearing noises coming from the room.
