Dear Friends of Marion First UMC,
The non-denominational inception of National Back to Church Sunday began eight years ago and tabbed for September 18thof the this year. National Back to Church Sunday (www.backtochurch.com) is an initiative that is “Inviting America Back to Church.” It seeks to reach the "un-churched" and "de-churched"—people who have never attended church, or who once attended church but don't any more—and invite them to return on
a special Sunday.
In 2013, a Gallup survey stated that 87% of people believe in God. Yet only 27% of those surveyed individuals attended church in the last 7 days. In addition, 82% of people who don’t attend church say they would attend if invited by a friend, yet only 2% of Christians ever invite someone to church. Over 30,000 churches participating representing 120 denominations are expected to invite over 3 million people to church each year for Back to Church Sunday. There are nearly 100 million Americans, including teens and children, who are presently un-churched as people increasingly move away from attending church and practicing faith. Back to Church Sunday is not just a day—it is a movement to empower church members to invite everyone to come to church. It is designed to help combat the decline of evangelism and church attendance by providing an easily implemented “invite-able" event that gives church members a reason to invite, and gives people a reason to try church again or for the first time.
Of course you never have to wait for a special Sunday to invite a friend. Any Sunday would be good.
Grace and Peace, Pastor Warren
Love Is All You’ll Find We know the love that God has for us, and we trust that
love. 1 John 4:16
Water must be wet. A fire must be hot. You can’t take the wet out of water and still have water. You can’t take the heat out of fire and
still have fire. In the same way, you can’t take the love out
of God and still have him exist. For he was...and is...Love.
Probe deep within him. Explore every corner. Search every angle. Love is all you find. Go
to the beginning of every decision he has made and you’ll find it. Go to the end of every story he has told and you’ll see it.
Love. No bitterness. No evil. No cruelty. Just love. Flawless love. Passionate love. Vast and pure
love. He is Love.
