Banksia Bulletin Thursday 30th November, 2017

Principal Report

Working Bee - A big thank you to the small number of parents who came along to our

final Working Bee for 2017. The weather was fairly warm but we still managed to get some

mulching and pruning completed around the school. We also enjoyed some fresh fruit and

cold drink (plus icy poles for the children who attended).

Instrumental Concerts - Last night we had the first of the Instrumental Music

Concerts. The quality of their performances reflects so well on our students’ musical talent,

their dedication to learning an instrument and the quality of the teaching. Congratulations to

the students involved! We have two more concerts next week on Wednesday and Thursday

evening to look forward to.

Book Pick Up Day - A reminder that Book Pick Up Day is next Wednesday 6th

December from 8am to 6pm in the Staff Centre. PSW our onsite uniform supplier will be

open during Prep Transition sessions if you would like to purchase uniform for next year.

Library Books and Take Home Readers - The school has some excellent literacy

resources for our students including library books and take home readers. Keeping our

collection of resources for students to use year to year is very important. Can parents have

a look at home for any school books and return them to the classroom or library as soon as

possible? Thank you for your help.

Compass - We are really pleased to “go live” with the Compass program this week. We

will be progressively adding modules to Compass and it will soon become a key means of

communication and administration for all in our school community. Parents would have

received a unique log in code in the mail. Please use it to login and access the “Parent

Portal”. Logging in and regularly using Compass will assist our further implementation.

Please note: The Absence Line will remain 03 5973 7700 however parents are encouraged

to use the Compass Parent Portal to record their child’s absence directly into the portal.

Year 5 and 6 Film Festival - Congratulations to our students in Years 5 and 6 and staff for their movie “The Nine Realms”. Special thank you to producer/videographer, Bruce Grantford. Viewing the film at Rosebud Cinema certainly added to the experience!

Prep 2018 Transition - We had our first round of transition visits today between 9.15

and 10.30am. Two further sessions on Wednesday 6th December and Tuesday 12th

December are also planned with information sessions and a chance to meet other 2018

Prep parents while the 2018 Preps are involved in the classroom visits.

Start of School 2018 - A reminder that students in Year 1 to Year 6 commence school

for 2018 on Wednesday 31st

January. 2018 Prep students will have interviews

scheduled this week and a start in classes on Monday 5th February and finish early at

2.15pm for the first 4 weeks. The uniform shop will be open from 9am to 11am on Tuesday

30th January for last minute uniform requirements.

Kind regards,

Martin Page Principal.

SPORTS NEWS

JOGGING CLUB

Jogging club has finished up for 2017. We will now start to collate all the cards to see which class has run the most laps in Jogging Club, earning them the ‘Class of the Year’ award which will be presented at final assembly. Who will take the title away from Miss Henderson, our 2016 champion class….all will be revealed at assembly.

Student cards from this year will automatically be moved to your new class. You don’t start with a new card unless you need one or you are one of our 2018 prep children.

Well done to everyone who has completed laps during jogging club. It is a great way to start the day and get the brain awake and ready for learning. Thank you to the sports leaders who assist every morning. You do an amazing job which is appreciated by all jogging club participants and myself.

AFL DRAFT

A past student of Mt Martha Primary School was selected in the top 10 of the AFL draft last week. Hunter Clark was selected by the St Kilda FC at pick 7. He is a graduate of the NAB AFL Academy. Hunter won the Stingrays' best and fairest award this year to top off great year having averaged 27 disposals for the club at TAC Cup level.

I’d like to wish Hunter all the best for the 2018 season and years to come.

Cameron Sweatman,

PE teacher.
