Lisa Barg, a four-year letterwinner for Ball State from 1993 through 1996, was selected to the 1996 GTE Women’s Spring Academic At-Large All-America First Team. She was also honored as the 1996 NCAA Woman of the Year for the state of Indiana, marking just the second time in school history a BSU student-athlete was selected as the state’s NCAA Woman of the Year. A three-time recipient of Academic All Mid-American Conference honors, Barg teamed with Fil Marcial for the league title at No. 3 doubles plus finished third at No. 3 singles to earn a selection to the 1996 All-MAC First Team. She ended her playing career at BSU with an 88-49 singles record and an 83-35 doubles ledger. A Whitinger Scholar at BSU, Barg graduated summa cum laude from the Honors College in May 1996 with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average as a chemistry premedicine major. She has completed course requirements at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

BALL STATEBall State began as a private normal school in 1899. Eventually the campus and buildings were purchased by the Ball brothers, a group of Muncie industrialists, and given to the state of Indiana in 1918.
The institution was named Ball Teachers College in 1922 and Ball State Teachers College in 1929. The school became a university in 1965 and its 660-acre residential campus now includes more than 60 buildings and 300 additional acres of research property.
Ball State has seven academic colleges and a graduate school with over 150 majors offered, including business, education, sport administration, telecommunications, exercise science, criminal justice, communication studies, journalism, political science and construction management.
