BALLOON DEBATE

BALLOON DEBATE

• In a balloon debate you take on the role of a famous person from history or from

fiction. You are in a balloon, which is sinking and needs to loose weight so that the

people in it can survive. You have about three to five minutes to put your arguments

across to the audience and to your fellow balloonists. You must be persuasive,

convincing and be prepared to justify why the others should be thrown out and why

you should stay in!

BALLOON DEBATE • 1st You will work in a small group of up to 5.• Listen to each other’s speeches – without

interruption• Then, when you have heard a person’s speech you

can ask questions or make (polite!) comments. • From that first group you vote for one winner. • 2nd The class come together into a circle after all

the students have voted in their group.• The winners then deliver their speeches again and

compete to be the overall winner and survivor. • You are allowed to make a dying speech – if you are

thrown out!
