What Does the AVID
Program Entail?
A 4-year elective, academic class for a
cohort of students
A prescribed program taught by
AVID-trained teachers
High academic expectations combined
with specific strategies and practices to
support students in taking a rigorous course
load
Exposure to habits designed to support
student college readiness
AVID might be a good fit for
your student if he/she
Has a strong work ethic
Is willing to invest significant time and effort
outside of class to implementing AVID
strategies
Is self-motivated and willing to work hard to
achieve success
Is committed to maintaining enrollment in a
rigorous course load each semester

For your student to be

• It must be his/her decision, not mom’s or dad’s. Statistics show that the successful AVID student is the one who personally CHOOSES to do it.
• He/she must understand that AVID is not a remediation class. The class is designed to push students academically who have the drive to do so.
