Color Range Demo

TRANSCRIPT

Select with “color range” command. With this command, you can quickly select a region of relatively solid color.

1. click select > color range

The color range dialog box open. Select the color area that you want. Photoshop will select the pixels similar to the pixel you clicked. These area will turn white in the color range window. The number of pixel that turn white depends on the fuzziness setting. You can increase or decrease by adjust the fuzziness

slider. You can broaden the sample by clicking +sample button.

Now you can adjust only the part you selected using the adjustment tools you have learned! Here I change the hue of the leaves to purple.

To add more selection, select one of the selection tool then shift click the selection or click add selection tool, to subtract just click subtract selection.

Adjust color balanceYou can use the color balance to change the amounts of specific colors in your

image. Click image > adjustment > color balance

Make sure you check the preview box. Choose the tones in the image that you want to affect. Then drag the slider toward the color you want to increase. To add warm cast

to image drag toward red or magenta, cool = blue or cyan (remember color lecture?!)

The original photo has pretty warm color cast so I cool it down a bit.

Apply HDR toningHDR toning can produce saturated glowing effects. It can look a bit surreal so

use carefully. Click image >adjustment > HDR toning

Click the down arrow to select a preset. Play around with it. Click and drag slider to fine tune different aspect of the toning.

Radius & strength = adjust contrast applied to edges. Gamma & Exposure = adjust overall brightness. You can also adjust areas of lighting with toning curve.

Match color between images. You can use the match color command to match color in one image to another. You will open 2 images, the source of image that

you want to match and the destination image that you want to change color.

Make sure you select the destination image window is select. Click image >adjustment > match color

Click to select the file name of the source image. Click & drag slider to control how the color are applied. Luminance + control brightness

Color intensity = saturation Fade = control how much color photoshop are replaces. Click OK. Remember! if you only want a part of image change, use the

selection tool technique!

Here the warm tone applied to the sea lion and water.

Before After

Create a DuotoneDuotone = gray scale image with color tint.

Image > made>grayscale, then discard

Image > made > duotone

Play around with preset or select your own color. Photoshop use 2 color to create the tone of image.

This is too extreme but you get the point!
