different cultures

Experienced seniors doing this project, so we took

interest

Engineering week 2012

Relevance to both sabbatical and school context

RATIONALE

Need for conservation of heritage sites

We want to look back into the past, maybe

conserve or restore the building itself.

The use of different colours in different contexts

(e.g. why is the Baba House blue? Why are most

museums white or grey?)

Preservation of cultural roots by looking at our past

THESIS STATEMENT

The evolution of paint corresponds to the change of

culture.

WHAT ARE WE GONNA DO?

Research on the different meaning of colours to

different cultures

Find out in what way paint binders have changed

through the times and cultures, also with emphasis

on cultures.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO IT?

Mainly comprising of Internet research, but also references

to our external mentors like Mr Chin and Dr Yeo.

Possibly a few more visits to other conserved buildings

other than Baba House such as Chinatown and Little India

Use of oral history interviews on the archives or conducting

an interview on our own about evolution of paint.

RESOURCES

Use of readings by Mr Chin and Dr Yeo

Emailing Dr Yeo and Mr Chin to clarify our queries
