2017 SAN JOSE JAZZ SUMMER JAZZ CAMP

PLAY THE POSSIBILITIES San Jose Jazz Summer Jazz Camp is designed for middle and high school students with skill levels from intermediate and up. Led by Camp Director Wally Schnalle and many of the region’s best teaching artists, the two-week day camp is held at the state-of-the-art facilities of the Valley Christian Schools Conservatory of the Arts in San Jose.

Offering deep immersion into every aspect of jazz—from theory to performance—each student participates in both a small group and big band. One advanced ensemble will be selected to play on the Main Stage at the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest on Sunday, August 13.

TAYLOR EIGSTIThis year, special guest Taylor Eigsti joins the faculty. Taylor participated in Summer Jazz Camp as a teen; in the years since, the New York-based pianist has received three Grammy nominations for his work as a recording artist and composer. Taylor has performed alongside Dave Brubeck, Joshua Redman, Esperanza Spalding, Sting, and Ambrose Akinmusire. He’ll teach master classes with students on June 29–30 and appear in the Camp’s Closing Night Concert.
