THE
Annual Meeting and Museum Exhibit Opening Scheduled for April 23-24, 2016
You have by now received the March 2016 “Extra” of The Gandy Dancer, which provided members with the initial notification of the 2016 West Virginia Railroad Muse-um Annual Meeting and grand opening of the Museum’s 2016 Exhibit, “Keeping Them Turning: Mid-Century Railroading in West Virginia.” This exciting exhibit would not have been possible without the generosity of the Western Maryland Railway Historical Society in Union Bridge, Maryland, who loaned the Museum a number of artifacts for display.
The agenda for the Annual Meeting, dinner, and train ride can be found on Page 2, and the corresponding registration form is located on the lower half of the back page. Please return your registration form and payment (checks payable to the West Virginia Railroad Museum, Inc.) by April 16, 2016, to the West Virginia Railroad Museum, Inc., P.O. Box 203, Elkins, WV 26241. You may also register by email to wvrailroadmuse-um@gmail.com, or calling (304) 637-4810.

Membership ReportBy Ed Griesel, Membership Chair
The West Virginia Railroad Museum operates totally on dues, income, and donations from its member-ship. The only exception is that, for the past three years, we have received modest grants from the West Virginia Humanities Council for use in creating each year's exhibit. These grants cover a small part of each exhibit.
Enclosed in this issue of The Gandy Dancer are forms showing how you can help make us even better. There is a membership form that can be used to recruit a new member, or you might consider upgrading your own membership to a higher level. Some of the membership benefits include discounts on Company Store items and free admittance to the Museum.
The other form is for Museum Fund donations. Some of our members use it for an annual donation toward projects, while others allow quarterly contributions to be taken. Please consider this as well.
A Note from the President: Uncle Jim Wants YOUBy James Schoonover
My message this quarter is very simple. In order to keep the museum open during the exhibition season and stay within our budget, we need volunteers to man our desk at the gallery door. Volunteers don’t need to be experts in railroad history but they need to have a friendly and engaging personality.
Last year, more than anyone else, Don Williams was the volunteer that kept our museum open. He is a retired fireman, and just like when he was fighting fires he was available at a moment’s notice. If you are interested in becoming one of our docents, please contact us by e-mail at wvrailroadmuseum@gmail.com or by phone at (304) 637-4810.
We will be continuing to develop our list of available volunteers, and it is our hope that many of our Elkins area members will take this opportunity to work with us this season. I look forward to seeing you!
