Animal Cruelty: The Effects on Dogs

Russ Sullivan

There are three types of animal cruelty. Unintentional,

Intentional, and Cruel Intention.

Unintentional Cruelty

This form of cruelty is not done on purpose. The person/abuser does not know what they

are doing is bad. The person does not realize that their animal

is suffering. They forget to feed it or give it water for days.

Intentional Cruelty

This form of cruelty is meant to hurt the animal.

Some kids may choose to shoot rubber bands at a dog due to peer pressure.

Somebody may be mad at something and kick their dog.

Cruel Intention

The worst form of cruelty. The person intends to hurt the animal. They enjoy hurting animals or it makes them

feel like they are powerful. People may feel that they have control over

others. To get this feeling, they hurt the animal.

Some may enjoy watching their animal in agony.

The Animal Fighting Spectator Prohibition Act

Introduced to the U.S House of Representatives on January 23rd, 2013.

This legislation would make it a federal offense to be a spectator at a dog fight.

People could serve up to one year in prison if attending a fight.

The violator would receive additional charges if they brought children to the fight.

My Visit to the Anne Arundel County Animal Control Facility

I took a trip to this facility to visit some animals and get a volunteers opinion about cruelty.

The most common dog I found at the facility was the Pit Bull.

“I’m very lonely!”

“Will you let me out?”

“Will you take me home?”

“I’m tired of being in this cage!”

“It’s Not fair!”
