Animal Body Parts and Their Uses

Science Objective

Goal 1.1 Relate structural characteristics and behavior of a

variety of animals to the environment in which they are typically found.

Essential Question

How do animals use their body parts to help them survive?

Fish

Fishes uses slime on its scales to glide through the water.

Birds

Seed-eating birds have cone-shaped beaks to crush and grind seeds.

Crocodiles

The eyes and nostrils of a crocodile stick up above its head, so it can hide under the water and still keep a lookout for prey.

Goat

Goats have hoofed feet, so they can climb rocks.

Gorillas

They use their feet to climb trees and to pick up food.

Can you tell how each animal uses their body parts to survive?

Lizard

Butterfly

Zebra

What’s the point?

How an animal moves and its teeth, eyes, feet, and claws, and body coverings all help the animal survive in its environment.
