AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR TACTICS

How did they fight?

What are tactics?

Tactics-The art or science of disposing military or naval forces for battle or maneuvering them in battle.

American land tactics

George Washington didn’t like militia. He much more favored The Continental Army. He wanted a force that could match that of Britain. He wanted a force that used European tactics. So he used the militia(Who were used to the woods in America)to maneuver through the woods and ambush the British. The Continental Army would move in like European forces, while the militia could use Guerrilla warfare.(A type of warfare that European soldiers were not trained to defend against)Most of the time later in the war this worked, and proved to be a great success .

American sea tactics

America did not have a navy. They relied much on the French navy. While other European countries like Spain or Denmark helped out with the American cause… It was France who showed the most support. In major battles like The Battle of Yorktown the French navy proved to be a huge asset.
